The stage was empty, but every parent's heart was full.
(Just look at Dave's face.)
There was a fairly long line of speakers, but not a bore in the bunch.
Each one was both entertaining and inspirational. (thank heaven)
Then it was time for the white coat ceremony itself!
Todd ended up to be the last one in line, which was kinda cool.
Here he is, walking across the stage, coat in hand.
The big moment arrives. He slips his arms into each sleeve.
Looks pretty good in that thing, doesn't he?
Next, "The MED-leys" sang a funny pop song with original lyrics.
Okay boys and girls, time to stand up and recite the oath.
Todd's the one on the last row, with two people to his left.
We only got 6 tickets, and these were the lucky ticket holders.
Grandma, of course, only had eyes for Todd.
And Dad was walking on air.
In fact, we all were.
Todd most of all.

It was the very best of evenings. One we will never forget.

Oh how I love this post! I'm so glad your pictures turned out because ours were a bust, I'm afraid. I was trying to aim the camera, and I'm the world's worst photographer and Dick was trying his best to get some video, which didn't work either, so we really appreciate the pictures. Weren't we the lucky ones to get tickets? Dick and I were so grateful!! I loved being with Todd. It was a wonderful evening, one I will never forget, believe me! Todd will make such a great doctor.
You're heart is still doing the two-step, I bet! My daughter just finished the work for her Masters, so I know a bit about maternal pride. She doesn't get her diploma until September 15th.
Todd's smart and HANDSOME too. Too bad he doesn't have anything going for him! :)
WOW, that must have been a completely amazing experience! All filled up with love of course!
How exciting. These are the moments of parenthood that make all the sleepless nights worth it!
Congratulations.
Oh Sue, I have tears of joy for you all!!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and photos of this wonderful occasion. Todd looks great too..... that coat is a wonderful fit!
A teary eye moment for all! I'm so happy for him and for you. What an unforgettable, well deserved moment.
What a wonderful way to start out his training - so nice for the six of you to be there to support, celebrate and affirm him.
The journey to get to this point has been purposeful and meaningful, and the journey from here on out will be just as focused and determined. He certainly will have earned his success in life. Congrats!
how cool. so happy for all of you, but especially for Todd. He looks awesome...I barely recognized him. No longer the young boy...he's truly all grown up and on his way. congrats congrats congrats.
Boy, look at the smiles on those faces. Proud faces filled with Joy and Love. This is a moment you three have been waiting for.~Ames
big smiles...congratulations again...know that is was an incredible night for all of you!
SO wonderful for you to share this journey with us. We sometimes forget the long road these doctors have traveled! It is great to see your family together.
Well that just put a big smile on my face. I remember seeing pictures of Zach's white coat ceremony so how wonderful you could actually be there! Zach's residency is going nicely, so I can attest to the fact that more good stuff is on the horizon after getting through the rigors of med school. Again, congrats to Todd - there couldn't be anyone more deserving!
I loved reading about this wonderful event! Congrats! I know you must be bursting with pride.
Ohmygoodness. I teared up while reading this...I can only imagine what you did when Todd slipped that white coat on!
It was good to see your Mom too. And I love your hair style!
What a wonderful evening for all of you! He looks so handsome in that white coat. It represents lots of work. Good luck to him!
Ahhh, big congrats to grad and mom & dad!
What a wonderful accomplishment. All of you have every right to be super proud.
Woohooo! I'm so happy for your family. What a great time and I'm so glad your Mom was there too! She looks great and very happy. Your son just radiates happiness too. He's so good looking, watch out...one of those TV doc dramas may just want to snatch him up! The world sure needs more good docs and I know Todd will be one!
Did you and Darlene feel me doing the Happy Dance for you during the ceremony. I thought of you guys all day wondering how it was going. I prayed that Darlene's back would let her enjoy the special day.
Your pictures are awesome. My goodness Todd is going to be one handsome doctor. lol
Should I send my daughter that way. hahaha
Love ya Sue and once again I am so happy for you
Maggie
What an amazing moment for your family! You all must be bursting with pride and Joy! Congratulations to Todd!
Very Very inspiring. Truly hard work has paid off and a dream has come true.
Love the pictures of all of you!
What a proud day. So exciting!!! So glad you all got to be there!
I can only imagine that it must be the BEST feelings of all, to have worked your entire life as a parent to raise your child in the best way, not knowing if the fruits of your labor would ever be shown until...well they are grown. And to see them happy as adults must be such a wonderful feeling. And to see them not only happy but also successful--it must be like you said, walking on air.
I also enjoyed reading the comments here. I liked what Lisalulu said about how we DO sometimes forget everything that doctors have gone through, just to serve us. :)
Sue, you are so beautiful! I love the photo of you and Dave with your son. What an exciting moment for all of you!
