Gilding the Lily

Jen, my buddy from Denton Sanitorium, has challenged every one of her readers to write a post today that shows the "real person" he or she is. I see the assignment as an invitation to sorta take the shine off the gilded lily, so to speak. Actually, I would be surprised if anyone who visits here regularly thinks this particular lily (me, in other words) is all that shiny, but if someone does...I thank you for overlooking the obvious.

Anyway, Jen isn't asking for deep, dark confessions (too bad, I think you would have been enthralled); she just wants a true-life picture of who we are when the blog isn't watching. Naturally, my first thought was that a few photos might be in order! I was going to start with a picture of my messy desk and go from there. Sadly, however, I cannot find my camera to save my life (or tell about my life, for that matter). As a matter of fact, I've spent most of the morning looking for it...which explains why I am so late posting today. I spent two hours looking for a camera when my plan was to get up early and de-clutter the house before my cleaners arrive. What's more, it's 10:08 right now, and I'm still sporting PJs. With the cleaning crew due at 11:30, I haven't even cleaned my teeth!

So far, then, I think we can conclude that I may be a bit disorganized at times (confession #1). By the way, if I'm going to do true confessions, I get to use all the euphemisms I want, okay? They make me feel better, and that's important when you're stripping the lily.

I blame Dave for the camera debacle, by the way. I usually do, when I can't find something of mine (confession #2). After all, it could never be that I have actually misplaced a thing myself, right? If I can't find it, my dear husband must have secreted it somewhere out of sight and mind. Of course, this time I am entirely justified in my belief. As it happens, Dave took both my Canon and my Flip to Tahoe with him when he went camping with the young adults from his congregation a couple of weeks ago, and he never gave them back. I'm sure of it (confession #3 - I always think I'm right). Or at least, I'm almost certain he never gave them back (confession #4 - my memory is terrible these days...which makes my 'always thinking I am right' a bit more ludicrous). The truth is that I like to think I am right, so I keep on doing it (despite recent and mounting evidence to the contrary). In fact, I've got a call in to the hubby right now to confirm my suspicions and establish the whereabouts of the camera and recorder he so obviously misplaced.

(Here's a funny thing. The big guy himself just called back to say that he DOES have them. Both of them, the Elph AND the Flip. They are in his car!!)

Did I say, "I told you so" to my beloved spouse? HA! Methinks you are going to be pleasantly surprised, my friends, because I did not! In fact, I was quite lovely about it. Gracious, even.

And there's a little more gild for my lily.

;)

Thanks for the funny! Don't we all like to think we're right?

You have cleaners? Is this a regular thing or a special something is happening thing?

Ha! Ha!
My husband and I were just talking about his failing memory today. I think I'll pick him up a few crossword puzzle books and some Vit. B.
Isn't it great to realize that we are all in such good company. Glad that you linked up!

I love the confessions!

My husband always just asks me where his stuff is instead of just looking for it. Bless his hear.

I go into a panic when I can't find my camera. I know my kids just roll their eyes at me when I am looking for it.

So when you get it back, we get to see your day, right??

Yes. I promise I will post my day...maybe as soon as Friday. (And I promise not to clean off my desk before then...)

=)

Nice to know I'm not the only one who "loses" things...or has someone who miss places them for me...
I keep a small inexpensive camera in my purse and it goes everywhere I go. Everyone in the family knows they aren't allowed to touch it!

I thought it was me still recovering from Evie and the pregnancy memory loss. Nope. Yesterday I left my desk, walked into Brad's office and completely forgot why I was there.
Oh yeah. A paperclip.

Ok I have not been over to Jen's blog yet but yours is the second post I have read about this challenge - I need to do this!
I think your Lily is pretty darn shiny (wink) but I know we all have "things" to conquer!!
Funny that your hubby had both camera's.

I have an sister in law who, when asked to locate something would say "I have a uterus, not a homing device." Your confessions are endearing Sue.

Once again you have put into words my exact thoughts. I think we are twins. Sometimes I am gracious, often I am not very gracious....

Fun post! Now I know a little more about the "real" Sue...and I'm happy to know you are very similar to me! My daughter-in-law lost her camera...couldn't find it forever..until one morning when the 4yr old poured out his cereal and the camera fell out too! He was so happy he found such a cool prize in the box! The pics of your family is the previous post are so beautiful! They really are a cute family and I'm glad you get to have them visit for Thanksgiving!

I was so inspired I wrote one too. Mine is not nearly so pithy. :)

Sue so glad I did not miss this post. You not organized is not a picture I have in mind of you and all. lol
I picture Sue everything that I am not because I so look up to you.
Glad you found those cameras and I so can relate about how the time gets away from us so quickly.
Take care honey

Maggie

The camera is the one thing I tend not to misplace. Paperwork? Always not where I remember it being.

Ha! Love it. I am guilty of always being right and blaming Hubs for all that goes wrong or is lost from my posession. Sigh.

Enjoy your company!

I chuckled...especially because he did have them. You were gracious in action, but in thought weren't you a tiny bit something else?? :)

I did this, too! I love Jenny Denton. She's a gem. It seems we have both that and AlphabeThursdays in common. Small bloggy world.

I'm behind on AlphabeThursdays from last week, so I'm going to go through all of your blogs since until I get to it!

I couldn't imagine you as anything but gracious, Sue. Especially when you're right.

Really did get a kick out of this one. Probably because some of your confessions struck pretty close to home. Dick will tell you that I often blame him for things I can't find. I'd say, I am right at least 50% of the time. As for losing your memory, please Sue! You are too young for this. Why? Because it makes me feel older than I want to feel. You are my daughter and daughters are not supposesd to start losing their memories until long after their parents have died!! Funny though, you, who always could remember everything, forgetting things now. Who will I call on now to remember things I cannot? Maybe you could clarify this and say that perhaps you only forget once in a great while. HELP! I need reassurance.

LOL, you are a better woman than me! I pretty sure I would have given my hubby a hard time about.

Ever so lovingly of course. :D
