Do Thanksgiving and Pride Mix?

I just found out that two of my nephews will not be with us for Thanksgiving in November. Since this is the year we traditionally gather with our extended family, I'm disappointed that these two will be elsewhere. Of course, I realize that our children have become adults, and it will be increasingly difficult to count on every single family member every single time. Occasionally, other obligations will intervene, and that's what happened this year. The good news is that the reasons they can't be with us are good ones. In fact, the reasons are pretty cool.

Cool enough to brag about, even. (And you know how I LOVE to brag.)

The eldest of my sister's sons will be MIA at Thanksgiving because he will be on tour with Classixx. This dynamic duo just got back from Australia, and it looks like they will be on tour in Europe for much of November. Things are going great for them; that's for sure. They even have a new single out with Mayer Hawthorne, and it's featured in a Mazda commercial. (Royalties are a good thing.)

His younger brother will be spending the holiday at NYU film school, which is harder to get into than Fort Knox. I believe he was one of 7 selected to attend this year. Past graduates include Oliver Stone, M. Night Shyamalan, Joel Coen, Ang Lee, Spike Lee, and Martin Scorcese, to name a few. And here are a few of the movie shorts my nephew has made. (Can you guess which one won the Critic's Award for Best Achievement in Storytelling from Dartmouth University?) The answer is here.

Anyway, guys, we're all proud of your accomplishments. But we will most definitely be missing your presence (and appetites) at Thanksgiving! (No grapefruit stuff for YOU!!)

I won't have all my chicks home for Thanksgiving either. It's kinda sad how quickly that time of life disappeared.

In your case...I would say that Thanksgiving and pride mix very well. Hugs

That is so wonderful for them! I guess they go hand in hand for you... or you could say you are Thankful that they are so blessed with such great opportunities. ;)

All of our extended family is gathering this year at our home - it's always a lot of work - but so worth it :) We miss all the grown up cousins now who have other families, jobs, or have moved so far away!

You have the most interesting people in your family! I'm another one who won't even kind of have all of the kiddies home for Thanksgiving. I'm not even sure at this point if we'll have any. But enough about me. What IS the grapefruit stuff??? Not so much the recipe as what IS it?

It is kind of sad that as families grow and kids grow older that it gets harder and harder to get everyone together.
It is super neat though, that your nephews are so successful much to be happily proud of!

It's funny bc I want to have my own holidays, but when I think about my kids growing up I want them to come back and celebrate with me!!! Pass me the came and let me eat it too;-)

Well, I'd say those are reasons to be grateful.
It is so hard to get families together the older everyone gets.

How cool is that! Very talented relatives, but I bet they wish they were with the family too. We have kiddos who live out of state, but near enough to make the trip and they now bring cousins from the daughter-in-law side. It's a crazy, crowed, fun, energetic time when everyone's here, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am going to miss those two as well. They are such great kids. I swear, Tyler has been on every continent except for Africa, and some more than once. He is really popular in Australia. As for Jordon, he will be just like his dad, never home because he will be on location all the time. Maybe his wife (when he does marry) will be able to travel with him more than Nikki has been able to travel with Perry.

I do understand though and even though they won't be here we will still have a great time. I love the circle time and of course all the good food, but tell me, if you can, why practically every kettle, pot or pan in the whole house gets dirty, plus
ALL THOSE DISHES, for a dinner that is over in less than an hour. All of the work, starting the day before, that goes into that great meal.........I guess it is worth it though, the meal I mean. Seeing and just being with everyone is certainly worth it. I am so looking forward to it, and it won't be long. I just wish more of the extended family could come. It is amazing how you always seem to find a way to sleep everyone, no matter how many come!

I would have to rent a hall or something to have everyone. As it is we will likely have 17 people over and that is if we don't get the missionaries. hahaha.

Very cool! Thanksgiving is going to be weird for me this year because my hub will be in Georgia finishing up his rotations there and my inlaws will be out of town. Wish I could go to CA to be with my mom!

That really will be strange, Katie. You need a family from your ward to adopt you for the day!

That is wonderful. Glad they are doing good things with their lives. It is okay to be proud about this kind of thing.

Such cool kids- they sound very artistic, perhaps they take after a certain aunt?

We're taking off to the land of the perpetual wind (and cold) to see my mama this Thanksgiving- I can't wait!

I like how you have kept up the family traditions through the years. But I also like your attitude of knowing traditions have to change as the kids (and nephews) get older and go their own way....some families don't get that.

Now I will go check out the links!

I'm an only child and I won't be home for the third year running because I live overseas. Thanksgiving hasn't made it to the top of the list of "visiting" holidays yet. I hate that, too, because I miss my mommy on that day. Still, we all go back and forth across the ocean to see each other at other times so it's okay.

Your kiddos have a much better excuse than me!

So, reading your blog a bit late, but apparently Tyler may make it to Thanksgiving... the tour dates have changed a bit. :)

Keeping my fingers crossed.

I am going to HATE not having Jordan.

That will be SO GREAT if Tyler can come!

And I'll miss Jordan, too. I have SUCH a cool circletime planned.

(I know how dreadfully he will hate mising it.)
