Memorial (Birth) Day

I have the privilege of sharing my birthday with a bunch of vets this year, and I think we all know who deserves the most attention. So, with that in mind...

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

May we never forget

the valiant men

who gave their lives
both now and then.

(And the valiant women, too.)

With all my "star-spangled heart," I thank and celebrate the courageous men and women who have given their lives, literally or figuratively, for this wonderful country. My family and I honor them...today and every day.

And we honor their families, too.
~May the Lord bless each one~

I have always been moved by Memorial Day (used to be called Decoration Day) My family always made a big day of this. We went on a picnic to where my Dad was buried and my older brothers told stories of the men who died for our country. It always gave me a bit of a chill and to this day whenever I see the flag, I get a bit teary eyed. And when I hear the Tabernacle Choir do any of the patriotic songs, I really feel the chills and tears. I am truly patriotic to the core.

Natalie had a wonderful post about Memorial Day as well. I'm so grateful there are people like you who keep reminding us of this important holiday.
Our Bishop spoke briefly of remembering those who sacrificed much to provide for our spiritual freedom as well...our ancestors.
I intend to have a greater spirit of gratitude this year.

And Happy Birthday! What a great day for a birthday!

Happy Birthday my friend.
It is truly a sign of wisdom when you surrender what is important to you for what is of greater importance.
We are going to do Natalie's moment of silence at 3 pm tomorrow.
And then I'll have a quiet mental shout-out to you!

My mom tells of my uncles being in the military and whenever they had a leave, they would just hitchhike home. People would pick them up and take them as far as they could..always happy to help the guy in uniform...

Happy Birthday Sue! I've enjoyed reading your Memorial Day tribute, along with Natalie's and many others. For my family, it's always been a day to gather and be together, and for the last 32 years it's also been the day we stop by my grandfather's grave and pay a little attention to him. It's a nice quiet sort of holiday - patriotic, but without all the hoopla of July 4th. But family? Yes. BBQs? Yes, yes! Glorious weather too!
