The Word Nymph Talks on Water

Magpie Tales is one of the best writing memes around, and the prompt is always a thought and emotion-provoking picture. I've only participated a couple of times, but I think you will agree that the regulars over there are a pretty talented bunch!

The Word Nymph Talks on Water
©2012 Susan Noyes Anderson

Even turned to stone,
I can't stop talking.
Water-logged (and -lunged),
I burble on, blow
bubbles with my words
and watch them rising...
till every bit of heat
and hope is gone.

When I run out of air,
I bide my time.
But groups of letters still
clique in my brain.
They gather there,
await the resurrection...
ensure this drowning, too,
shall be in vain.

of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."

"every bit of heat and hope is gone"

Very powerful.

Is that Enya I'm hearing?

Susan Anderson said...

@Kat-

Yep, it's Enya! (The siren who can hypnotize you in a few measures makes for perfect drowning music, right?)

;)

I fricken loved this...I could run with this one, also I could see college students a hundred years from now disecting this and forming thesis and argueing about who's vision of your poem was right.

This is wonderful. You describe that feeling of never coming up for air so perfectly. I love the cliques of words. K.

Thank you for a very thought provoking poem and thoughts. Love the quote!
You are such a talented writer and I always enjoy your posts.

I enjoyed reading your poem. Interesting thinking.... words literally becoming a life force, keeping you alive. Writers feel like that, but few writers are able to express such a thought so succinctly.
Thank you for sharing.

Talking under water can be interesting to gauge. Metaphor-wise it means the person can overcome any obstacles and continue speaking. To me it's pretty challenging. Great verse Sue!

Our world is a little bit better thanks to Tess for pushing us a bit with prompts like this. A lovely take on her image, a bit dark but darkness reminds us of the importance of light.

Nice take on the prompt. I expect a few husbands around the internet are nodding their heads sagely after reading this.
