I See Trees

The light that glows in every tree
warms and lifts and strengthens me.

{ it shines so brightly, hearts can see }

Trees
Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Definitely a favorite.
I do love trees and all of His creations.

Trees do more for us than we know. We're thankful to for the shade a tree can offer as you sit under it an sip a cool drink, the jungle gym it makes for children that climb it and the music it makes as it rustles it's leaves in the wind.

I love the mountains and the trees!

It is funny how something that is so ordinary, we see thousands of them everyday, could be so special in their own right.

I love trees and am mourning all the ones burning right now in my beloved northern Arizona.

I love trees. Love them. Wish there were more of them.

I love those first lines... and love trees, that is a big plus up here in Washington!

This was a lovely poem. It was inspiring. I have read it before; but now my brain is refreshed again. Besides the fact I love a good shade tree to lay under and think about our Heavenly Father.
Blessings to you!

I don't think I've ever lived anywhere I've been more grateful for trees than AZ.

I will never forget that poem, because I had to learn it in grade school (probably in sixth grade) It is indelibly impressed upon my memory. I too love trees, but whenI memorized that poem, I don't think I had any idea what they would mean to me when I got older. You do have some beautiful ones in Northern California, but we also have a few interesting ones here in the desert.

LOVE this poem. I had to learn it when I was in school. :) Funny how that stuff sticks. :)

Your words are definitely the best for describing the beauty of trees. And they are exceptionally beautiful this time of year.
That was really different to not hear the music right off....

I've always loved that poem. I'm surrounded by trees here at the Pines..and I do love them and appreciate them..especially in winter because they supply our heat for the season...

Sue loves her trees. I will always view trees as more interesting, more individual, because of your love for them. I especially love your "elf tree" in your front yard. My favorite trees? I think those trees in Northern California that hang out over the ocean all twisted and knarled. Are they cypress trees? I don't know, but they're lovely. Or maybe those tulip trees with the gigantic pink tulip looking flowers. I love jacaranda trees too with their purple blossoms, but if you park under them they make your car all sticky.

This has always been one of my favorite poems! To be created in the image of the Ultimate Artist (also known as Our Heavenly Father) humbles me in my artistic moments.

I think that I shall never see
a billboard lovely as a tree.
Indeed, unless the billboards fall,
I'll never see a tree at all.

Ogden Nash

(I memorized it as a young child because, even then, I thought he was funny.)
