Mixed Feelings - A Saturday Centus

I coughed too hard to sleep a wink last night, but I couldn't resist giving the Saturday Centus a whirl. I think you know the drill by now...a guest prompt from Cheryl this week and 100 words from me to tell a small tale. The prompt is in red.

Mixed Feelings

A child's whisper always carries, and the hiccupping sobs added volume.

“Mommy yelled real loud at me in her mad voice."

Josh answered as reassuringly as a six-year-old comforter could. “It’s okay, Izzy. Mom’s not mad; there's a baby in her tummy. Remember? It makes her kinda grouchy.”

“Does her belly hurt?” The voice rose higher, a note of worry added.

“It probably does,” her brother said, seizing upon the explanation with obvious relief. “That baby is huge.”

“Then why’d she eat it?”

Reverting to form, my 6-year-old apologist/lover of bathroom humor giggled. “So she could poop it out, dummy!”

I listened to them from my perch on the top step and didn't know whether to laugh or to cry...

∞§∞

I know...not in the best of taste, but the punch line is a true story.
(What can I say? I'm sleep-deprived!)
And kinda punchy!!

OMG! Out of the mouths of babes! Love it!! Hope you're feeling better, and not coughing. I'm behind in blog reading, so I didn't realize you've been sick. Sending well wishes your way!

Love it- especially the logical 6 year old explanation to the 3year old's logical question! I love hearing a kid's take on the world

How funny. That made me smile. Sorry you are sleep deprived--and from coughing. That is the worst. I hope you are feeling better soon.

LOL, I love it when a Centus is part of a true story. It makes it really interesting to me. Good job.

The things I've overheard my kids say to one another - we could all write books, I'm sure. Cute story. I sure hope you feel better soon - get a Z pack. I needed it to just give my body a kick start on healing. I didn't start feeling better until the whole pack was gone!

This was too cute. "Then why'd she eat it" - I just about fell off the sofa laughing. Hope you feel better soon, Sue!

What children don't understand, they make up. They just try to make sense of our world, but it is funny.

Of course it is in good taste! You wrote a delightful account of a tale between brother and sister in the discovery of life! I truly enjoyed!

Wonderful post, Sue! I've always thought it would have been awesome to follow my kids around with a tape recorder and capture these types of scenes.

Then I could play them back at their weddings or graduation.

Ahh well, maybe next life! LOL!

I loved it!! And it seems to make more sense than how babies actually get in and out, right? : )

Children really do say the darnest things. That was so cute; perhaps you could publish the conversation so more can see it.
Children are such a joy. We just had a family reunion and I am anxious to post the memoreies.
If you get a chance to check my blog. I did post my 8 year old blind granddaughter playing the piano. She is such a joy to us and I explained how she became blind.
We all need to enjoy more of the priceless moments in our live and her listening to her is one of those moents. Hugs to you! LeAnn

Eating the baby sounds a lot more logical than how it actually gets there!

Okay, that was classic and I'm grinning from ear to ear!

I should add that the story itself isn't true. What's came from real life is the comment I heard one of my children's friends make once about "pooping a baby out." That phrase has stuck with me all these years...

Really funny! Enjoyed this even though I am really late reading it. I am still under the weather, but at least I feel I can sit up and get caught up with your blog.
