A Bit of Comic Relief

Of all the people
in the world
millions of guys
zillions of girls
of all the animals
there are
from Timbuktu
to Zanzibar
of all the statues
ever raised
to villains feared
or heroes praised
of all the buildings
ever built
that stand up straight
or even tilt
of all the car tops
ever made
from fiberglass
to steel
to suede
why did it have to
land on me
not on the ground
not on a tree
not on the street
or at my feet
but on my head
with liquid dread
I must exclaim
at the deadly aim
of the dreadful turd
of that dreadful bird

I hope this silly verse doesn't offend anyone. I wrote it almost 20 years ago when I was feeling particularly sorry for myself after my hysterectomy, which did not go well. (Surgical menopause = not a good thing.) Way back then, writing this childish poem with a bit of crudity thrown in for good measure made me laugh. It still does.

It also makes me remember that braving bird-filled skies is part of the package here on earth. And I sure wouldn't want to give up the beautiful music they bring with them!

Signing out. At the beach. Still on pins and needles...

If you don't laugh during hard times, you'll cry. I prefer to laugh. I'm glad you do too. Once we know what's what, we can 1. celebrate 2. deal with it. And then move forward. It's the not knowing that kills you over and over with every passing second. Laughter is good medicine.

Some people called it, 'bearing their cross', others survive 'their Gethsamane" and other times its 'bird turd'! I'd like to think we can find the humor in the struggles of our life. I know I can use it for sure.
I hope you get some resolution soon.

In some cultures it's considered good luck..but I don't think this is one of those times. So hang in there Sue...whenever I think of bird turd I think of Disney in Cal...my son got hit with one as soon as we entered the gate! He was mad, we couldn't stop laughing!

This makes me think of the time at work in Argentina when it landed right on me as I walked back to my hotel. The sympathetic looks on people on the sidewalk still remain in my memory.

Hang in there. You are in my prayers.

HAHAHAHAHA! I knew where it was going and was riding on the wave of the words.....I chuckled. Then I read your concern over offending someone....and I laughed out loud! You are toooooooooooo nice! I could probably do with a dose of that myself. I always come right out and tell people, "I'm not nice. I may, at times be kind, concerned, sympathetic, etc....but I really not nice." Ask anyone who knows me well. I have an almost caustic strain of sarcasm that courses through my veins. And, yes, that's true.
