I caught Neil Young's Bridge School concert Saturday night.
(The proceeds, every year, go to his autistic son's GREAT school.)
This dude was my date for what always turns out to be
the best concert of the year. And this year was no exception.
Strike that. James Taylor and Carole King tied Neil this year.
But this was some line-up! Great company, too. Our son arrived...
with seven of his best friends...to kick back and enjoy the cool vibe.
(Lucky for them, we went early and saved a big, hard-to-defend space.)
This particular friend was especially welcome. He brought produce.
(I even scored a tart but tasty little tangerine from him!)
The crowd was a friendly one...just kickin' back and waiting
for the rain...comparing stories of prior years at the event.
Finally, the stage lit up! Neil started things off with a bang;
then an obscure (to me) folk group, Grizzly Bear, began to sing.
Modest Mouse and Jackson Browne were next...and the audience
was in the groove by the time Emmylou Harris showed up.
She harmonized with Lucinda Williams, greeted the autistic kids
seated onstage (having the time of their lives!), then hung around...
to sing with Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, and Neil Young.
Billy Idol and Pearl Jam jammed without her. Eddie Vedder rocks!
(And so did the audience, even though it rained cats and dogs.)
Buffalo Springfield tied up the evening, along with a Giants win!
Now, THAT was a group celebration. Can't think of a better way
to win the National League pennant than at a concert!
We came home and watched the DVRd game and interviews,
finally hitting the hay at 3 AM. A glorious day all around!
(Nice winning home run, Uribe!)
GO GIANTS
And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our son Matt, who is
unimaginably old today. (But he's lookin' good!)
WE LOVE YOU, MATT!
PS. Wish you could have been with us last night, Matt. Eddie is my new hero.
=)

Sue I loved that you always have the best outings to share with all of us. Gosh this must of been quite the night. I am so glad your son joined you with his friends. Makes it that much more enjoyable.
Belated Happy Birthday to your son Matt too.
I made a decision yesterday to take creative writing course and of course you are the first person I thought of to give me advice on which class to start with.
Hope you don't mind but your so gifted I thought if you did not mind could you shoot me an email with a little advice. I am thinking of doing it online but we do have a small college here Blinn College but they also have classes on line.
Appreciate you
Love

Here's a big old HAPPY BIRTHDAY shout out to your handsome man child!
What a 'rockin' time ya'll must of had at that concert. I have to admit, I'm just a wee( a lot, gigantically)bit jealous! Ya know I'd be beltin' out tunes with the best of 'em.
God bless ya and have an incredible week. Now go rest up sister!!! Heeeheheh.......
That's a great line up, all those fantastic bands playing for a good cause. And my schroesband is not rooting for your giants (go rangers, I think?)
Oh my goodness, what an amazing line up. What fun for you!
How fun! What a great looking group of young people and even the "dude" you went with is cute! Happy Birthday to your son Matt. I'm always amazed that our kids keep getting older, but we don't...mystery. Great concert and all that talent gathered in one area. So sorry it rained, but hey, everyone looked happy anyway!
You do the most fun things! I'm a little jealous - that was a great concert! And a winning team as well - you had quite a weekend my friend! Hope you're catching up on your rest. Happy Birthday to Matt!
That looks like a wonderful time, and what a line-up!
PS.I love the tunes on your playlist.
I agree with everyone else that you are always in the middle of all the fun stuff!
Being the hermit that I am tho--I love to just live vicariously through your posts--so keep living your life and blogging about it--no pressure tho....
I envy you everything but the rain. What a lineup. I listen to everyone on your list. You certainly have a handsome son.
Wow!! That looks like it was a fun night! What a great line up of performers! And for such a great cause. Too bad about the rain though, but it doesn't seem to have stopped anyone from having a great time.
Whoa what an evening! The family part of it is I'm sure the best.
GO BIG ORANGE!!!
SOOOOOOOOOOOO JEALOUS! I love every word/note Neil Young has ever breathed. And Buffalo Springfield??!!! Yowza! I remember them with Jim Messina!!!
I think you might have scored the concerts of the year!! I had a great time at mine last week. It's something we did more young and broke than we do now and the memories of those concert years are pretty good. Now gotta find another. We've been to Nashville to hear them before, so Pittsburgh was just a quick trip
