My digital elph has officially come home to mama, and so (camera in hand) I give you......the rest of my "keepin' it real" story from Wednesday's "Gilding the Lily" post.
Okay gang, I promised you my desk, and here it is, messy as always;
but that's just the beginning of the story.
You see, I'm stashing various Christmas presents
in every nook and corner of my office.
And my office has a lot of nook and corners.
Even my chair has Christmas presents on it.
(The garbage bag, however, has clothes to be donated.)
And these aren't Christmas presents, either; this is church stuff:
some paper and a printer that I couldn't lift, so I hid it...Badly.
The dining room is another gift-staging area...among other things.
(The Christmas dishes happen to be a gift to myself.)
But these gifts really are for other people. Trust me.
And so are these...Honest.
I know, it's not ideal. But the closets are full, so I'm reduced to nooks and crannies for Christmas storage. And I think I'm just about to run out of room. The big question is this: Where am I going to hide all this stuff when the recipients come home for Thanksgiving?
The answer? In the attic. (Sssssh. Don't tell. It's a secret.)

wow already got your christmas gifts stashed? I love it. I need to get on it --although you have a lot more faces to shop for!
I knew when I stumbled across your blog that you had to be a kindred spirit, and now I'm even more sure of it. My desk looks exactly the same. Not only that, it's the exact same desk! But I haven't gotten around to stashing Christmas presents yet. I guess I better get moving on that. Have a wonderful day!
You are so on top of things! I need to get my Christmas stuff going. My desk looks like that and I don't have one Christmas gift stashed!! I'm just such a mess in this house!
I think that is one of the hard things about Christmas...it can be so messy. And I don't know about you, but I often forget where I hide gifts and then end up buying them again!
You are so smart having your Christmas shopping done...I am almost there. You may have to rent a small storage building to put all those gifts in...how about under your beds...is it full under there? Thanksgiving is not all that far away so hope you find good hiding places soon. Hugs
I was thinking the same thing myself. Those kids will be there before you know it. Time to rent a storage space.
Now that wasn't so bad, was it?
I can't help but look past the clutter to the concept that you have so much shopping already done!
That, my friend, is impressive.
I bought the little boys a calendar today, does that count as started on my shopping?
I don't even have one Christmas gift bought let a lone stashed. And I wasn't brave at all, I did not post a single picture of my house. Too scary. haha.
This made me laugh! I am a nook stuffer too! You have alot done already - Good job!
I love that you stash your Christmas gifts in your nooks and crannies(as opposed to your crooks and nannies). And my office is just as crazy- without the explanation of stored gifts.
Your office had a familiar feel to it - it's a lot like mine, only yours has more furniture. I only have 1 gift purchased, so you're waaaaay ahead.
How's this for keepin' it real: I just got back from the Primary children's program rehearsal, and I'm ready to kill someone. Horrible experience. I'm sort of over being the pianist at this moment.
Wow! You are on top of things! I haven't bought a single thing yet
OMG! Can I just say how much I <3 you?!?!?! This could be my house. Except that my family are expert gift finders, so I have to really disguise them. I also have a horrible memory - because I had 2 kids after I turned 40 - which means the disguises often work on me too. The other day I found a Christmas present from 2008! I'm totally using it this year...if I can remember where I hid it;p
I wondered how you got into my computer room when I saw the pics...even the church stuff is the same. So far I have a few gifts "stuffed" in my bedroom/storage room. Oh wait, I just remembered the ones in the spare bedroom/storage room. My only hope is getting a reality TV show so I can buy a big storage shed and start over.
Amazing, Sue. Absolutely amazing. Your office looks like a normal person's office. And I love the nooks and crannies full of lovingly purchased gifts. Now the question is this; since you have all your shopping done, will you help me with mine? I have no idea what to get anyone! :) I love that you have already started your Christmas shopping and that you hide your printer and paper under an end table. That is what being real is all about. ;)
I love you for being willing to show photos.
I don't think I could do it. At least your nooks and crannies are filled with gifts. Mine are just filled.
And flat surfaces in general are the bain of my existence, so it ain't just nooks and crannies.
Ooohhhh, I am a nook n' cranny stasher tooooo!!! Ha! Yes, one closet has no foot room because I am getting ready....FUN!
First of all, I absolutely LOVE you and your real life, unpretentious, comfy, cozy home!!! You've inspired me to post some of mine!!
At least you have a pretty good jump start on gift giving for Christmas. Unlike me, I always wait until the week before Christmas to get started.
Well that made me feel a WHOLE lot better because my dining room table looks just like yours!
You're brave-I don't dare take pictures of my house right now. Some how it recently got out of control between Hayden constantly throwing food on the floor while she eats, to clutter on the table, to clothes on the floor. I need to buckle down and get myself organized again! P.S. I'm working on your headbands-sorry, I got a little backed up with several orders at once and helping my hub with all this medschool interview stuff. Will you email me your address? Thanks for being so patient!
I'm glad i'm not the only one :)
Now if I can just find a chair here somewhere to sit down and finish this comment . . .
Kristin
i feel your pain.
My mother-in-law has the same problem. They have eleven kids between the two of them, and most of them are married with kids of their own.
We all stash things at our house, but I'm probably the worst.
I can't believe you already have so many Christmas presents! I haven't even started :(
