Winter has a beauty all its own,
a framework plying men to look within
and find the quiet hush in every soul...
that peaceful place where new growth must begin.
Sorry for waxing poetic two days in a row, but that's what January does to me.
I can think of nothing better right now than settling in with a woodspice-scented candle, a cup of herb tea, my favorite gliding but not smudgy pen, and a cozy-cool journal. Oh, and don't forget to wrap me up in one of the soft-as-snowdrifts throws I gave my children for Christmas. (I like the mink. No worries, PETA...just a color name.)
It's all about setting the mood...and January definitely has that covered.
So does Judy Collins.

Ah, how I miss winter. Sometimes.
Oh so you like Judy Collins...that brings me back. She is very reflective, just like this post.
So do you keep a journal besides this blog? I wish I could say that I do. I was so faithful in my journal. I didn't miss a day in 2 years straight and then I started my blog....and the journal stayed closed. :(
I actually love the benefits of a freezing Minnesota weather now. It took some years but you are right, winter does have a beauty all it's own.
May
I am learning to appreciate winter more and the benefits of this season to the earth and especially where we live. Generally it is not pretty here in the winter. Dead and brown. This year is beautiful and white. I think I may be the only one in our city who thinks this, but of course I get to stay home.
We will all love the way the winter kills the bugs this summer!
I don't keep a journal as well as I used to pre-blog either, Jill, but I do like to sit down with pen and paper and jot down some thoughts, get a poem started, or just doodle a bit. Having a pen in my hand grounds me and helps me think.
your poem is beautiful-- I'd type more but my hands are cold!
Ilove your writing. I'm like the others - my blog is my journal these days. At least I'm recording something! And I also love Judy Collins - I'd kind of forgotten about her. Thanks for the reminder. Here in Puerto Rico, a warm throw doesn't sound so good. The air is thick like a warm throw.
How beautiful and soft. For some reason those words and photos make me think of soft.
I'm trying to remember why I get excited for winter, you just gave me the reminder I needed!
O Judy Collins...you and I were meant to be friends. I love her.
Wish I could say I loved winter. One of the things I love about Palm Desert is that our winters are pretty perfect, I'll take the desert any tome. Having said that though, I really loved your poem and I must admit that I see a lot of beauty in winter pictures.
These are beautiful winter photos. And I am glad that you love winter. Your liking winter buoys up those of who don't (like me!)
On the topic of Judy Collins -- you may want to read 'This is your Brain on Music'. There's a great section about Judy Collins' musicianship/talent.
My best,
