Crocodile Tears

Saturday Centus is here again, and with it comes a new prompt and a specific genre: science fiction. (ugh) The good news is that we get to add 100 words in addition to the prompt, which is in red.

Crocodile Tears

"Beam me up, Scottie..." Laura clicked off the TV and settled into their new-generation tempurpedic. One more Star Trek re-run, and she’d turn into a pumpkin. “A Vulcan,” she corrected, her voice too loud for the setting. But what did it matter? He’d vanished so silently and completely he might never have been there at all. What kind of man slinks away in the night, without warning? “A Reptilian,” she replied, shouting at the empty room as if he were still there to hear.

Lightyears away, he panics. “Coincidence,” he insists fervently to his scaly superior, but it’s too late. She’s already been neutralized.

Nicely done, Sue. But I have to laugh - I'm so unpoetic. I got stuck on "Beam Me Up, Scottie" and all I could think of was a photo of Jake, our Scottie, staring into space (stalking moths)... a friend, upon seeing the photo, labeled it "beam me up, Scottie"

I suppose that's what one should expect from intergalactic affairs- scaly business those reptilian lovers.

I got a kick out of this one, and I'm sure Dick did too. He is a true Star Trek fan, as you know, and I could almost hear the Star Trek theme as I read this. Or it may have been Dick's cell phone.

Creative and a little scary for those of us with great imaginations, Sue. I think I recognize the Reptilian as an ex-husband of a friend of mine.

Sue, I'm ever impressed. You told a story that leaves me wondering; packed it with humor, romance and tension; and I love the outbursts the characters have when alone. It all feels very sci-fi, too.
You really are brilliant.

I think you should now go out and write a si-fi, or maybe just a sequel for Star Trek. I'm sure there's a market for that, and you seem to know all the jargon. teehee
Seriously, you do have a great imagination.
