It was a solemn and sacred occasion.
The sun shone down upon us, and warmth enfolded our hearts.
We mourned together; we rejoiced together.
We remembered a good life...a good man.
A loving mother paid tribute to her son.
Children paid tribute to their beloved uncle.
And we were simply grateful to have known him.
A good friend overheard what may have been the most beautiful moment, for me, of the entire day. One of his dear little nieces whispered to another, "Look, Uncle Matt is inside that big, red treasure chest."
Considering who was laid to rest there Monday, I think she got it right.

This is a tribute to him too, Sue...sympathies.
May the Lord bless them all. That was very tender Sue.
Sue, such a beautiful tribute. And the treasure chest words from his niece were absolutely priceless. Children are truly precious, and often comforting in the saddest moments.
Children get it, don't they? I would like to think Uncle Matt was all around them.
What different view of a the treasure chest - that will one day truly become a marvelous treasure with the resurrection. I hope that your heart and others will be comforted and eventually healed.
Very sweet. I can't imagine burying a son. It must be the worst ever.
Sue, you have such a gift. This was so touching.
I will never go to a funeral again and not think of the treasure chest comment..so sweet and so wise. Your tribute was beautiful and touching.
What a wonderful tribute. Out of the mouths of children come wonderful things...what the little girl said was so sweet. Praying you are all blessed and comforted sweet Sue. Hugs
Well, the tears are flowing again. I am just getting more emotional each day that I age. I wish I could control the tears more. But that was so sweet and poignant. That little girl paid her Uncle Matt a pretty high tribute, didn't she? Children are just so perceptive and have a way of describing things all of their own. And yet, how perfectly the whole idea is.
How close to the spirit you must have all felt at his service.
Treasure chest.. that is just beautiful. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
Tender mercies. Children say the sweetest things in all innocence at just the right moment. I would hold that memory forever. Uncle Matt must have loved it.
How is it possible for a mom to make it through something like that. Wow!
Her son was a living tribute to her, as are daughters. She will survive because she is an incredible woman who has an inner strength that comes from her deep faith. She has a brightness of hopes that shines even in her darkest hour.
little voices are sometimes heard the loudest, so sorry for your loss. blessings & hugs to you & your family!
Such a wonderful tribute. Love these photos.
What a beautiful tribute, Sue. May our Heavenly Father bless them and give them strength during this time.
How tender and sweet. My condolences are sent your way. And what a sweet thing to say! A treasure chest indeed!
Thanx for sharing that bit of childhood wisdom. Sometimes in the midst of my depression etc those are the kinds of things that help me "snap out of it"----
That was beautiful, Sue.
