The first day of fall finds me eager to embrace the crisp, clean air and spicy fragrance of my favorite season. Two grandiose pumpkins, keeping company with another simply splendid one, are already out in force on my front porch; and even though we are in the last throes of Indian summer, autumn has officially arrived. Today. I know, because I can feel it hovering just around the corner, waiting to surprise me with the kind of morning that makes me want to throw my arms wide and laugh out loud with the joy of it.
Besides the sights and smells of this season, I love the cyclical process it represents. Fall reminds me, in a most resplendent way, that every living thing comes full circle. It celebrates this truth unabashedly with harvest time and Thanksgiving, spreading the table for winter to bring nature's yearly denouement home to our hearts and minds, tempered by the unwavering Hope that is Christmas. I also love spring, the time of renewal, but it is autumn, somehow, that speaks most deeply to my soul.
What a wonderful world we live in, spinning around the sun and circled by that old harvest moon!

All living things must yield;
the cycle is revealed.
A leaf, once green, turns brown
then, falling to the ground,
dissolves to fertilize
a seedling on the rise.
As rain becomes the dew,
so every end is new.

My very favorite season as well - even more than summer, and I LOVE summer. There's just something about the crisp morning air and bright blue skies that come with autumn. And the colors - oh, the colors!
Sue, I love fall so much too, and gained a whole new appreciation for it when I lived in NC, not that Cali doens't have great fall weather:) I just love the colors in Asheville... I recommend going there sometime. I wish fall lasted a little longer here in Rexburg, maybe this year we won't get any snow til late November!! Heres to hoping!
amen sue, AMEN! costco is our afternoon outing: buying footie jammies (hopefully they're still there) and pumpking paste filling. can't wait to get baking:-)
I walked on pink leaves today. It was crunchy and oh so delicious.
I love fall too.
Lovely, lovely, lovely.
And just when my friend Jamie and I were lamenting the lack of fall here in AZ, you are reveling in it.
Ah, how I miss those days.
Oh I love fall too. I wish it was fall longer though. Love your poem...it's perfect.
I like your stuff, girl! the leaf pictures have me smiling a comfortable smile. And I see you have old Louis on your music loop. My almost 15 yr old boy broke into an imitation of that one day a couple of years ago that was AWESOME! rasping voice and all... and I've tried bribing him with treats and money, but he won't do it again. Maybe he'll sing it to me in the nursing home someday!!
Fall is my favorite season also!
And this might just be the best expression of why that I've ever heard/read: "Fall reminds me, in a most resplendent way, that every living thing comes full circle."
Thank you Sue!!! :)
I love the fall! It really is the best time of the year! This was beautifully written. I can't wait to put a pumpkin or two in my front yard.
