Lighthouse Dandelions - Jamie Wyeth |

We'd like to say a word for weeds,
brave victims of mad plowers.
Why must their sturdy lives give way
to frail, elitist flowers?
We're financing a lighthouse scheme
to offer them safe harbors:
a solar sanctuary from
the dandelion barbers.

Well, in some states 'weeds' are legal now, so they are in a way....protected! Ha! They were put here to torment us, you know...:)
Good one.
Brilliant with a dose of whimsy thrown in for good measure!
Ahhh..the poor dandelion...I hear it's delish when prepared correctly. I love yellow roses, tulips, pansy, mums..but for some reason the dandelion sets my teeth on edge! I need an attitude adjustment I guess!
We pride ourselves on having a weed-free lawn. Poor little guys! :)
haha sign me up to support....dandelions are my fav flower (errr....weed) smiles....
lol on dixie moms comment...smiles.
There really is a cause for everyone to support!
Oh, this was a cute one. I love the yellow dandelions; not in my lawn. I treasure the little dandelions that have been picked by little hands to give to me their mother and now grandmother.
Blessings!
You certainly have become the spokeswoman for weeds. This poem puts a smile on my face. So clever.
This is hilarious!
I love your words in defense of the weeds!
So full of jovial kindness, these words, thanks Sue
Well, Amen to all this! Well said.
And so debate continues, but in defense of weeds, find this whimsical and clever, indeed!
Fantastically fun!
I too love their sunny prettiness but fear their spread.....like weeds.
And really - who doesn't love a few dandelions? They're supposed to make a great tea, be good in salads, and they're so bright and sunny. But the best (or worst, depending on your viewpoint) is when they turn into fragile "fairies" waiting to be blown by wind or children's breath to the four corners.
I love dandelions. They have such a sweet smell, and are so bright and cheery. They are especially cherished when presented in sweet chubby hands. I love your poem. It made me smile.
If they would all go to the refuge and stay there, I might contribute!
oh the weeds of life! Sometimes I think we have them just to make us stronger.
Now there’s kind.
..aww, poor dandelion barbers & mad plowers for they don't have any idea what they're missing... i never looked at dandelions as weeds... i think they should have been classified to better rank... smiles... loved your take!!! :)
I'm proud to say that Ontario has banned herbicides on lawns. I wish humans would look at the BIG picture and realize that bees and other insects need weeds to survive, and we humans need insects to pollinate our food. A beautifully manicured lawn is not so important when you think deeply about it.
