Yes, folks, that's a real, live snake from my grandson's fifth birthday party. And the whole thing made him very happy, as you can see. (But am I wrong in noting just the slightest bit of anxiety in that great,
BIG smile?) I am told this rather affectionate boa constrictor wrapped himself right around our birthday boy and started
squeezing hugging! And I'll bet Mr. Snake was a heavy load to carry around, too!!
But all's well that ends well, and Bryce has survived to enjoy all the wonderful birthdays to come. Now if we could just get him to wear a helmet on his skateboard!

oh MY!!! I would not have liked that at all!!
Yes, he's a brave!
The title of this post was enough to catch my attention. I thought he had received that snake as his gift. Now that would be a crazy mom.
Glad it was just a guest!
He is much braver than I.
Brave boy! I agree...I see a slight panic simmering behind those smiling eyes. What an awesome birthday experience for him.
Ack! My heart just stopped for a moment! He'll hold a deadly snake but won't put on a helmet? Boys. :)
I can't say I'd enjoy a squeeze from a snake, birthday or not.
yikes! ow...um glad he survived...glad it made his day...glad it did not give a hug you know...lol....looks like a fun birthday though...smile.s...
Oh my gosh I would have been so freaked out to have my grandson holding a snake that large. Wow, what a brave young man he is. I admire that you could watch this and not be extremely stressed.
Loved this one and blessings to you!
He looks pretty darn happy to have that snake wrapped around him!
Eeeeekkk I would have fled the room!
I remember when just plain old clowns would come to a kiddie birthday party...however, I do hate clowns, but frankly I'd suffer one instead of the snake! Yes, a brave Grandson you have! Happy Birthday to him!
That looks like a very special birthday hug.
I think that would freak me out as a parent a little. Although if I was the parent, it would be my fault. Ha
Every boy should get a birthday hug from a boa at least once in his life! They are like a huge muscle, and so smooth! Bryce's mom is a good sport, and I can see she knows what boys like!
What a brave lil' guy! Thanks somuch for stopping by A Rural Journal. Much appreciated! xo
What a brave grandson you have. I wouldn't want to be that close to one. Glad he liked it though. Hope he had a wonderful birthday.
My goodness he looks grown up! Do I sense a bit of concern and fear in his Grandma? I hear you!
Bryce is far, FAR braver than I am. :)
{{{shudder}}} snakes give me the willies! How did he react to the snake's "hugs"? I'd have flipped out...yeah, we don't do reptiles in our house.
But your grandson's smile is 100 watts of joy!
Sorry Sue, but if one of my kids wanted a birthday snake, they'd have to do it without me. They just plain creep me out!!
Now I'm feeling guilty for all the lame kid parties I threw.
Eeek! Not for me! No siree.~Ames
I hate snakes too. Rich used to have a pet snake when he was a kid. Perhaps you remember it. It was a small snake, but I still hated it. He had to go into the hospital over night for something (I don't even remember) but he managed to smuggle his pet snake in there. He hid it under the sheet. The nurse came in to check something and when she pulled the sheet back, she saw that darned thing and screamed bloody murder. Nurses and doctors came running from everywhere. I was so embarrassed.........guess who had to take the snake home?............ugh
What is it with little boys and snakes. My son was out looking for one already the other day b/c it was a slightly warm day. Hope your grandson's b-day was grand...sure looked like it. :)
OMG here in Florida we are overrun with those escaped killing machines. They are upsetting the balance of the natural environment and eating, yes eating, peoples pets. They will even consume a small deer. Well, he has had the experience of a constrictor now, hopefully that's it and he will not want one as a pet. He is so cute in that pic. Nice to meet you Sue.
What a dream come true for him, albeit a little scary. 5th birthdays are the best, according to Keith. I can't say that I would know any better than a 5 year old. I hope it was a blast for him!
Lucky boy to get a boa for his birthday party! I once helped sponsor a teenager who had been invited to Australia to live in the Outback. He brought a boa to our son's classroom to pay for the sponsorship. Happy class. Nervous teacher told me, Don't tell the principal.
