There's nothing like a walk through fall
with crunchy leaves beneath your feet
to make you grateful for the call
of nature, with her gifts so sweet.
A crisp green apple in your hand,
the crunchy blast of nectar tart,
the joy of feasting from a tree
instead of fruit bins at the mart.
The hunt, the choosing, and the pride
of gathering (held deep inside)
is ancient as an autumn rune
and full as any harvest moon.
Tradition is the purest fun;
once families worked till day was done,
preparing for the winter nigh
beneath a fading autumn sky.
And when their labors were complete,
they thanked the Lord for food to eat
and took each offering from His hand
with gratitude for life and land.
(My grandchildren love their traditions.)
=)
Happy birthday to our son, Matt, who also happens to be the
father of these great kids and the husband of the photographer!

As always, your grandchildren range from incredibly cute, to pretty girl in the middle, to handsome tall boy at the oldest end. You must have lots of fun with them!
Stunning photos. I love the exquisite radiance.
Saludos.
I still am stunned every time I read one of your poems. You compose them so easily and they all turn out so well. Both Dick and I are totally awed by your talent. I am so very proud that you are my daughter. Those kids are getter cuter all the time and that is saying a lot because they were all just darling from the moment they were born. We are so fortunate to have them as grand and great grandchildren. I am getting anxious to see them again and think that one of these days when I feel a little stronger we are going to have to up the hill for a little ride.
Another blue ribbon winner in this poem.
I love how every thing blends perfectly.
This is incredibly poignant. Your grandchildren are adorable.
I love the grandchildren poems. And all the beautiful fall pics and picks.
Wonderful! And I love "We Gather Together" as a backdrop. Your poetry is good, too! Happy Awe-tumn!

What br=eautiful grandchildren you have, Sue, and your poetry to accompany the photos is perfect!
My children always looked forward to apple picking time -- it was a family activity.
What an absolutely perfect walk through autumn with lovely words, and such adorable grandchildren...this is such a wonderful time of the year to go out and pick-up nature and it's harvest and take a tasty bite of it too! Great W post! Great fun too!
Your grandchildren are really lovely.
What a wonderful walk with your grandchildren !
What a relaxing post! Your evocative photos and poetry reminded me of those occasions when I was young and we picked the fruit of the harvest. I adore Mother Nature, and am feeling grateful now for those times I've been close to her with my family.
It is wonderful that you have these traditions in your family, and the strength the children get from them is reflected in their trusting, confident eyes.
Thanks for sharing...*sigh*
Great *W* post – what a wonderful walk!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend and look forward to *seeing* you again!

Happy Bday Matt. Cute pics of those adorable kids. Apple Hill? I used to take my daughter there every fall when we lived in the Sacramento area...lots of great memories.

What fun! We were supposed to go to the Pumpkin Patch up at the Methodist church this evening but Hurricane Sandy is making it a miserable day.~Ames
Fun fall pics and those pumpkins...oh my.
Just beautiful! I have missed the crunch of leaves underfoot, but am becoming accustomed to the soft padding sound of fir needles under my hiking boots here in the Pacific northwest.
this is wonderful! I worked Thursday and Friday, which were nice days and today is cold and wet...but I'm ok with being inside with a fire and some puttering around...
My pumpkins are on the front steps and apples are in the kitchen...life is good and fall is nice... hmmmmm...
Beautiful pictures of a picture perfect family! Your fall tribute is lovely and really pretty. This really made me smile, thank you!
oh Sue, you know I think nothing compares to a trip to the apple orchard! What a fantastic way to spend the day - the photos are great, the kids adorable and well...perfect!
My in-laws have a small orchard and picking apples was a favorite treat for our kids each fall. We haven't done this in a quite a few years and I miss those simple days in the autumn sun gathering God's blessings from each limb and enjoying the sweetness of each delicious bite. Thanks for visit and encouragement my friend!
Your grandbabies are all growing up so tall! I very much enjoy seeing pictures of them. They are your best posts of all.
What fun pictures and perfect prose to go along!!!
Oh Sue! They are wonderful!
Just wonderful!
The poem was fabulous, but it was the happy expression on your Grandlittles faces that just made my day!
Thank you for sharing this wondrous blessing with us.
A+
Those are wonderful fall traditions, and if it were mine, I would love it too! Those grandkids of yours certainly are handsome.
