US Korean Veterans Memorial

My iPhone photos don't do this one justice, but I wanted to share them because the Korean War memorial was my favorite...even better than the Vietnam wall, which was a powerful experience in itself.

These life-sized statues of men moving through the jungle were both moving and chilling. It was as if the artist had captured these brave soldiers in time, and the hair stood up on the back of my neck as I entered the jungle to watch their stealthy advance. If you have not seen this memorial, make sure you do. It is breathtaking!

Heroes on patrol, for certain.

I haven't seen that. It's effective in the way it's presented, even in pictures.

I've missed you, Sue!

I cannot imagine how I would feel if I were there. Probably would make me be much quieter than normal...

D.C.is one of my favorite places to go. It's about 7hrs from here and we've been many times over the years because it used to be our Temple district before the Columbus Ohio Temple was done. That is the only memorial I haven't seen and your pictures are so wonderful. I can't wait to go back and see this. I love the new WWII memorial and the Holocaust museum. Everyone should see our nations capital at least once in their life!

Just looking at the photos I could feel how hard it'd be to actually see this in person. The Vietnam Wall and a couple other memorials always bring me tears.

That is so amazing. Where is this?

Oh my, I'm sure it is very impressive in person, because it is impressive with the pictures you show. I have never even heard of this memorial. I assume it is somewhere near Washington D.C.

When are you coming home? I need help on my blog. I posted a bunch of pictures but have only had two people respond because the comment place is so VERY far down from my last paragraph that people probably don't comment because they didn't know they would have to scroll down so far. Of course Dick doesn't know how to fix it either. I miss talking to you but hate to call you on your cell.

I agree with you. The Vietnam wall is symbolic and beautiful - sobering, but walking among those lifelike soldiers is very immediate and unforgettable.

Oh this is indeed a moving memorial. I just happen to be reading a book about war, The Cellist of Sarajevo, so this makes me feel all the more personal.

What a beautiful and evocative memorial. Thank you for posting as I'd never heard of this memorial. Did you know that many Canadians fought in Korea too? It is a scandal that our government sent them but then never chose to recognise them.

Oh my what a memorial. It is amazing and would love to be able to visit it someday.
I will have to google it because I am not sure where it is.
Your pictures turned out very nice on your iphone.
So happy I came by today because I have never seen anything like this.

For those of you who asked, this tribute to Korean war veterans is located near the Vietnam war and Lincoln monument in DC.

Oh my!!! My hair on my neck stood up and I got chicken skin (aka goosebumps) on my arms as I looked at your photos, so I would love to see these in person! My hubby's dad fought in the Koren War (he was hit by shrapnel and doctors told him he couldnt have any children...thanking the Lord that he did have 4 children, since his second child became my handsome hubby :o)

Blessings & Aloha!

Powerful. Gorgeous. Absolutely stunning!!

This is just a testament (I speaking from purely the visual perspective) to the importance of figurative sculpture and how moving it can be.

I love these memorials. I consider myself to be coming from a very patriotic family and my father (who is retired Air Force) always took us on family trips to see Memorials and Monuments like this one.

I would like to see this one myself.

Love, Caroline

Sue! This is wonderful!

I had my speakers turned up from listening to my I-pad and the music made me jump out of my skin!

And then these pictures just made my heart beat fast.

Visiting today was quite an experience!

I'd like to see that memorial for sure!

A++++

All the war memorials are great, but this one is unique and I am excited to see it one day. IPhones are pretty great too.

Where is that?! Still thinking Halloween, I think that would be a spookier place to be than any graveyard. But in well lit daylight, I imagine there is a sense of reverence and gratitude there. It looks very impressive and I am sure my husband, history buff that he is would love to see it one day.
