Respect for the Flag

I don't like it. And I wouldn't like it with Romney either.
Or George Washington, for that matter.
Red state or blue state, this is our flag.
The Stars and Stripes forever.
And we need to honor it.
Republican or Democrat,
Libertarian or Independent...
This is a star spangled banner.
Not a billboard.

I hope that Nancy Hilbert and her Lake County associates will choose not to fly this flag again, not just because it is against the law, but because they realize it would not be appropriate. And I have to believe that President Obama would agree.

federal flag code, public law 344, section 4G;

“The flag should never have placed upon it or any part of it, any marks, insignia, letters, words, figures, designs, picture or drawings of any nature.

You got that right, Sue. I hate it when I see any other flag flown with the American Flag. I want to go ripe it down, but know that it would look to good for grandma to try and climb the flag pole.

Seriously, though, this is American, not Obama land or any other land!!!! So may have fought to defend it and it is precious to them and to us, who LOVE AMERICA!!!

National emblems are precious and should have the respect that they have worked for

Just to put it bluntly, which I seem to have a talent for, this makes me want to puke!!!

In my opinion, in so many ways, not just the law you listed, this is just not right.

This is one flag I would not mind seeing burned...I will stop now before I create enemies.

Sue I agree 100%
it doesn't matter
what party you choose
this is NOT what
our flag stands for!

Thanks for doing this! At first glimpse of that Obama flag, my brain instantly goes to thinking about communism. Sick.

I agree! My mother was German and she had more respect for our flag than most Americans ever will. She couldn't ever stop complaining when she'd see shirts or dresses or anything else designed like our flag but worn on your body or hung from the towel rack. Great post! My Mom is smiling from above!

A flag is a powerful symbol and it seems wrong to use it in such a way. I am sure that your President would not have approved such a use - sometimes local political workers take it upon themselves to do things that the leaders know nothing about.

what in the world? Why? huh?

I don't understand what goes through some peoples' heads. Think of how many people this took to make, and sell, and fly. Ridiculous.

Amen, my friend, Sue. Not even George Washington's face.

i hear you...when even the symbol of our country is used to our own gains....it is sad...though a picture of what we are/have become...

I had no idea. That's terrible!

You are so right, Sue. Being hte patriotic soul that I am, I thought this was a joke at first glance--obviously the result of one ignorant person's idea supported by more ignorant people. I would be embarrassed if I were Obama. Just not acceptable.

Nobody I know pays a lot of attention to flags in the European countries only when there is a football (soccer) game.

I agree - it's wrong and shouldn't be done. I hadn't heard of Nancy Hilbert or Lake County. What is that?

I agree with you. Our flag should not be used as a billboard. Not only that but we should be showing our love for our country no matter who is president. Because, as we all well know, they won't be president for very long.

Visiting from Mrs Matlock’s, did enjoy your *R* post – a flag is such a powerful symbol.

Have a great Alphabe-Thursday and weekend too.

Yes, there are many who take advantage of the symbols that represent all for your interest, it happens everywhere and is disrespectful to people who think differently and are represented on the symbol of the nation. Greetings.

Love the song! I agree and I'll bet President Obama would agree also that it's just not right...

Our flag should be sacred...

I so agree with you on this one Sue! In fact, this picture makes me downright angry!

I'm so with you on this one, Sue. I hate when anyone tries to mess with our flag. I have always loved our flag and tear up whenever I see it flying ANYWHERE.

I hate it too when I see people trying to wear parts of the flag for clothes. That just drives me crazy.

I agree with you completely!

I love the flag without any additions myself.

Oh dear I can't believe what I am seeing here.
Please don't let me get started on this disrespect of our flag. Angers me all the way down to my toes. Now that is a lot of anger. lol
Thanks for writing this I hope to never see this happening again.
I don't dare show it to my brother Tommy.
Love ya

This flag is a disgrace, in my opinion. I'm old school about the flag and it's representation of our country. It comes from serving in the US Air Force.

President Obama would be appalled and rightfully so.

Remember when they used to burn the flag in protests? This is no different to me.

That's just crazy... the disrespect of the flag not your point of view on it:-)

Nezzy (Cow Patty Surprise) said...

Miss Sue, scooch over and let me on that soapbox with ya...I soooo agree.

I don't care who's face is planted on there 'cause it's simply disrespectfully defacin' our flag.

'Nuff said!!!

You have and amazingly blessed weekend my sweet friend!!!

Cathy Kennedy said...

I totally agree. The American flag should be respected. This is nuts! Of course, my blood boils when I see people burn our flag. I don't care how much I disliked another country, out of respect I would never do anything like that. Thanks for stopping by!

I find this makes me just... sad. So many have lost sight of what America truly stands for.

"In God we Trust".

I wonder if someone would get mad at me for saying that?

Cheryl D. said...

I do like the sentiment behind the flag though! ;P

Terra said...

um, yes. I like it less with this face on it than with another a choice however I completely agree that any face is not an appropriate face on the flag because the flag is no place for a face.

Wander said...

Sue while I agree with you about that it is disrespectful, this may actually be protected by the constitution, Freedom of speech, I.E. art work...And I don't understand why the comments of "Obama should be ashamed" or "my brain instantly goes to thinking about communism. Sick" are being made...this was done by a free citizen of our democratic republic, not some robot of a communistic society that would lock down it's freedom of artistic expression.

I actually read the law that you quoted and here is a fun fact for you...The people that wrote these laws had enough respect for anyone placed in the position of president, that if he felt it necessary he could put his likeness on the flag, while this is disrespectful to the flag It is also disrespectful to the president, not one of your patriotic commenters mentioned the fact that the institution of the president should be respected as well

Here is the section I was referring to
FEDERAL FLAG CODE: PUBLIC LAW 94-344
SEC. 8. Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in proclamation.
