union: the nature
for dave
©2010 Susan Noyes Anderson
our roots run
together
trunk to trunk
we rise up
bark on bark
we grow
leave knots
love knots
forget-me-knots
knotholes and
arching separations
always winding back
together
bowing
to and fro
as branch in
branch we dance
and struggle
hang low then
stretch high
boughs yearning
reaching turning
tasting bits of
one (the very same)
bright azure sky
And just as nature is all under the same blue sky, so are all of we. Our branches intertwine from time to time, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThis really made me stop and think! Wonderful words & image.
ReplyDeleteHappy Alphabe-Thursday!
LOLA:)
PS Mine this week is HERE. Hope you can join me!
I suspect, or hope, you will not be making the music decision democratically. This is a really great poem and is enhanced by the music. It would be a shame if your trees had to run together, rise up, leave knots, dance, and struggle without accompaniment. However, more Neil Young would be good.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully Submitted,
Matthew D. Anderson
gorgeous. This is one of my new favorite poems. Perhaps you could submit it to Segullah for this month's topic on challenges in marriage? and yes, the music does add to it.
ReplyDeleteThe truth is, music on blogs is simply a matter of taste. I vote you leave it for the people who enjoy it because it's no work at all for someone like me (in a very noisy household!) to turn it off.
I like the idea of tasting bits of the same bright azure sky, as do we :)
