Wynken, Blynken, and Nod

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night sailed off in a wooden shoe,
sailed off on a river of crystal light into a sea of dew.

This whimsical nursery rhyme, one that captured my youthful imagination completely and has never quite let go, is a special favorite of mine. The vintage photo it accompanies captures me too, sailing mind and memory back to golden days of wooden shoes and herring fish and stars in the twinkling foam.

Only yesterday, while sifting and sorting through boxes, my mom uncovered this picture of a much dewier version of me, sound asleep in my first double bed...with two of my three sisters in residence. (Naturally, I am the winsome one who conked out with her glasses on and her mouth open.) I'm willing to bet I fell asleep reading, and the book is somewhere underneath one of my cuddly little visitors.

But look how cute they were...

Did brighter starfish ever nest in nets of silver and gold?

=)

Love the glasses. How are kids always so comfortable sleeping in whatever they have on at the moment?

  9. That was one of my favorite poems when I was a kid. My grandmother had it (along with very vintage illustrations) in an old literature book set she had. I'd read it whenever I went to her house. Love the picture - reminds me of some with my brothers and me. Sweet!
