Christmas Decor and So Much More!

The tree is up! The house is fully decorated!!

And I have the empty boxes to prove it!!!

There's even a gift under the tree...

to hide some unfortunate rust stains. *sigh*

Be that as it may, however, the tree looks beautiful...

if a little crooked...

and ever so slightly overloaded.

But that's our style.

We do it on purpose.

Honest.

Our stockings are hung from the display shelf with care.

(What can I say? Our fireplace doesn't have a mantle for dangling.)

It does have a hearth, though, complete with creche and snow scene.

The other fireplace has a hearth, too.

complete with every kind of thing

under the sun...er...snow, I mean.

But I digress. Let's go back to the living room display...

where many lovely things are crowded, willy-nilly, onto shelves

and more shelves.
(Sometimes I'm too lazy to move the regular stuff.)

Okay...lots of times I don't move stuff.

Most of the time.

But again, we like the cluttery look.

Or at least, we do a convincing job of pretending we do!

(I shouldn't say "we," I should say "me.")

My poor hubby actually prefers order and harmony.

He goes for style and elegance...

restraint, not resplendence.

Which must be why he married me... ;-)

the lady of many tsotchkes, Christmas and otherwise.

(Maybe he's something of a masochist??)

(Could be! He's willing, after all, to put all of these away for me.)

But personally? I like to think it's just love.

~ better 'n hot chocolate ~

=)

You are one dynamic decorator. A little over the top even. It works for you. It's a sign of creativity.

I just read my mom's comment on how they don't really do much any more since there aren't kids at home.
See, Mom? You can still do it!

It looks beautiful! Do you use a real tree? If not, it looks real to me. I can almost smell it. We stopped using real trees about 10 years ago and I miss that smell. I've started buying pine tree scented things to make it smell like that all December.
I don't know if my husband likes my Christmas decorating much either but he tolerates it. I guess that describes our marriage pretty much...tolerant!

I love a loaded tree- all of those ornament memories smushed in one place. Yours is lovely!

Your decorations are beautiful, Sue.

And yes, I think your grandson would like The Clockwork Three.

Yep, I do use a real tree. I just gotta have that smell!!

=)

PS. Sometimes I wish I could make myself buy a fake one, now that they look so real. But the fake pine smell has a ways to go...

Beautiful! I love the tree, and I'd love to hear the stories behind all those ornaments, I'm a sucker for the story.

Didn't get my tree this weekend and I blew the perfect chance of a snowday and captive helpers!! Now that Bert is taller, ornaments might go all the way to the top!!
Yours looks great!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around there. It's a warm and happy look.
I am glad for you and your hubby to have a love even better than hot chocolate. That's a miracle in and of itself.

First...I won???!!!! You are the sweetest thing and I'm really excited about the lovely jewelry! I'll choose the pewter earrings and I'll be so thrilled to wear them! Second...another person who decorates like me!!! I hate the putting away of boxes but I do like my decorations. I'll have to post some pics myself...Thanks again Sue for the prize and I love your blog and hope you have 700 more super posts! Thank you!

I am in awe of how much fun Christmas decor you have! It is beautiful. And I laugh that you don't move any of your other decor. The cluttery look still looks fantastic! And I can't wait until I have that many boxes for Christmas!

Yes, Sue, you are way over the top, but still, like you say, it's your style. Can't you just imagine what your sister Jayne would say if she was in your home this Christmas? You know how much she LOVES clutter. It has been a long time since she had Christmas with us though. As for me, I love it all. You are being you and that is what I love. Having said that, I am going to miss being there this year. I think it is great that you have taken so many neat pictures of your decorations though. I can hardly wait until all our Santa Clauses and other decorations are in place. There is something nice about having all that stuff out. Come to think of it, my house looks a bit cluttery when everything is out also, but we love it too.
