Summer Drafts

There's a new twist to Jenny Matlock's Saturday Centus this week. Participants still add only 100 words to our fearless leader's prompt...but this week, the prompt (in red) must also be the title. It can be fact or fiction. Mine is fiction, about a woman whose summer has been...well...I'll let her tell you.

What I Did over my Summer Vacation (100 words or less)

I never saw the split coming. Our usual summer plans were set in January: a weekend or two with the grandkids, a few days driving up the coast, a couple of months at the beach. The greatest blessing of retirement was freedom. We'd always made the most of it.

He still made the most of it. I made very little of it indeed. He flew his newfound liberty high as a flag on the 4th of July. I flew at half-mast, hiding. Home and never more alone.

What I Did over my Summer Vacation (100 words or less)

Hid, hibernated, hated him, hated me.

What I Did over my Summer Vacation (100 words or less)

There are no words.

Very clever. I could feel the hurt and the anger. Perfectly written as is. I'm glad I stopped by to witness a bit of literary art in action.

Well, I am glad I read the comments, which I don't often do. As I read it, I felt it and was trying to decide how to respond. So glad this is fiction. So, great post.

That was very very real. Close to home. I had to hang onto my "All Is Well" necklace a little bit until I could remember that the woman in the story is not me anymore. And I'm certainly glad it's not you.

I'm sorry to say I liked this story the least of all of your Saturday Centus stories, it was way too sad. And real, in an unfortunate sort of way.

Nicely done. Loved the visual impact of how you told the story, too. Very clever.

You are ridiculously cool.

I love your "outside the box" way of expressing fiction.

You are my hero!

And my inspiration.

Wow.
