Men-richment

The place to be last night was my house, where we hosted a get-together that the young men in my husband's congregation like to call "menrichment," a time when they all hang out en masse to do male-bonding-type activities. This time, they decided to appeal to the more domestic side of their collective psyche. One of them agreed to teach the others how to make pizza (with actual dough) in my kitchen. And oh, what a time was had by all!

As an icebreaker, I exposed the somewhat unwilling gang to a few routines from So You Think You Can Dance, which they probably did not enjoy as much as I did, but they were good sports. (Does mocking and jeering at the male dancers count as being good sports?) Well, at least, they didn't make fun of me, and that's what counts, right? Once everyone arrived, we headed into the kitchen. Here is the photo evidence:

There was a lotta testosterone in my kitchen last night...

And a lotta pizza dough!

Charming chefs concocted meat and cheese-laden crusts,

carefully ensuring that their pizza would be mouth-watering good.

This guy was proficient with the dough,

And this one seemed to have the whole exercise down pat.

They even used a pizza stone! Impressive, no?

Ding! The masterpiece was complete.

Looks like Hawaiian Luau pizza to me. (Hey, isn't that a chick pizza?)

Whatev. Trevor looks pretty happy with it!
(And I think the rest of 'em are jealous...)

But soon enough, they have their own menrichment pizza to eat.

Chow down, dudes!

On Sunday, the crew will take over my kitchen again to make the biggest mess you've ever seen cook a pizza dinner for the young ladies of their choice. Good times!

=)

PS. Where is the So You Think You Can Dance justice in a world where my two favorite contestants are forced to leave the show in consecutive weeks due to injury?! Ashley and Alex were the heart of the show for me, and this is raining on my parade, big-time. (Having said that, Robert and Allison danced Travis Hall's choreography beautifully last night.) It was breathtaking.

How fun. We had a pizza cooking competition between the boys and girls in our family once. It was great. I love your kitchen

I would have loved to have been there. Cooking with the YSI's is so much fun! They're cluelessly creative, and very interesting things happen. What fun!

Fun! That pizza looks so good :) I LOVE So You Think You Can Dance and also watched it last night. I hate that two of the best dancers got injured.

Great idea to teach them how to make the pizza first so they can show off for their dates on Sunday!! Good luck to them all.

What a fun looking night. Really. I would feel very comfortable with men all over my kitchen. Just like old times with all my sons and their friends here. I bet you did lots of laughing (the things they say, the way they cook...male types can be SO funny!)

Looks like the guys were having a great time...and to think it will be even more fun on Sunday. You are such a good sport Sue. I'm not sure I could take two nights in such a short time.

As for SUTYCD, I was absolutely sick when Alex went out, and then when it happened again to Ashley, I couldn't believe it. If it hadn't happened to her, I am afraid Jose would have gone, and even though he may not have the training that the other dancers have, I love his smile and I do think it is amazing how really well he does anyway. I'm glad we will get to see him one more time though.
