Ode to the Ocean

Forget all your troubles, and come out with me

for a day by the ocean, a day by the sea.

You can walk on the sand with the breakers quite near

or gaze out contentedly over the pier;

but no matter your viewpoint, the tides and the swells

will remind you of secrets your heart rarely tells.

(Oh, happy the family that by the sea dwells!)

  1. For a few moments, I felt like I was on vacation with you. I do believe my blood pressure even dropped a point or two. Then, the last photo made me smile brightly and feel like I was an honorary member of the clan.

  7. Lovely music to go with this post! I don't usually have the sound turned on, but happened to this morning.
    It is, indeed, a joy to live near the ocean. We can be at the beach in 5 minutes and I love it summer and winter.
    What a cheery picture of everyone by the shore!

  13. We have such beautiful beaches in California. But the best picture is the happy one at the end. :)

  14. One of my favorite things is to walk out on the pier, watch the surfers and feel the breeze. The weather has been stellar! Thanks again for the fun last night. We loved busting out our basketball skilz. The night was so perfect I wish I would have walked down to the water. The waves are so beautiful at night sparkling in the evening light, and their whooshing power, and the bubbly fizz of the foam at the end is more pronounced.

  18. Love this, the poem, the pictures and the family photo. Who did you get to take it?

    We look forward to the white coat ceremony. I wouldn't miss it for anything. I probably will have to go in my wheel chair as I won't be able to walk very far.

    Hope you enjoy the last couple of days.

  19. Listening to the background music and scrolling through your photos made me feel like I was on vacation, relaxing & writing poetry under an umbrella sipping my favorite non-alcoholic beverage! I guess my upcoming Caribbean vacation is on my mind (lol)

  20. Great poem! Love the pics. It's been way too long since I've seen the ocean..our cruise to Alaska 3yrs ago was the last time. It looked cold, here it's so hot and humid it's just crazy. Glad you had a great time!

  21. Enjoy all that ocean - and the breezes...we poor upper mid-westerners are locked in hot and humid weaather - so uncharacteristic for this area...wish we had an ocean nearby..even the lakes are too warm.
