The Fix Is In(side)

The Fix is In(side)
©2014 Susan Noyes Anderson

My life is hard; she likes to say.
In fact, she says it every day.
Reliably and without fail,
Poor me has been her holy grail.

She's taken knocks, and that's the truth.
It's gone that way right from her youth.
The girl can't seem to catch a break.
Most days are more than she can take.

Maybe, she says, her luck will change.
She's always thought it's kinda strange
how helpers come and helpers go.
Nobody sticks around, ya know?

They don't show up for me, she cries.
And no one's gonna say she lies.
But how can anybody help
when she's a no-show for herself?

Of course, nobody makes it through hard times alone. We all look for cheerleaders in life––and who doesn't need good people to pass the ball to when we're about to take a dive? With trouble chasing us down, a quick hand-off can keep us a step ahead. But we still have to suit up every day, to get our own hands dirty.

Lasting change comes from within, where the power is...our power. And the precursor to finding life fulfilling? Being willing.

we do need others to help us through those times...by you are right that we can not depend on them to help us out of it...because we will be back in it again soon enough...because we never found our own way out of it...

It is basically up to us.

Sometimes I sound just like her!

Sit quietly, and listen to your center where God lives. That is your Source.

Super post, Sue. It's true that no one can truly help us if we don't help ourselves.

Thanks dear Sue for this one~ I have a dear granddaughter that is just like this description. It's so hard to help her because she can't see or doesn't really want to change.
Your thoughts were all so true.
Blessings,Love and hugs!
Update me on your mom again; I hope she is doing well~

These are the hardest people to have a conversation with. They only want to stay in the negative and it becomes very wearing to those around them.

Hi, Sue,
Sorry it's been so long. I was going thru my dashboard and decided to visit. I'm glad you're still cranking out beautiful poetry. This one is so true. I love it.
Be well.

That one really makes you think, Sue!

A friends has a new kind of cancer after kicking one 10 years ago. He was so down at first, I knew he wouldn't last long, but he's turned an attitude corner and I think he's got some time left. You can't put the fight into people who won't hold onto it. Here's hoping. Good writing.
Happy hot summer!

Whenever I've tried to help someone I always have to remind myself that I can't want it (whatever solution they're seeking) more than they do. My Mom has a life philosophy..."Just do it"...Nike stole it from her! Sometimes that's what we have to do. Alone or with help...love the poem!

Oh Sue.

I am sitting here with tears streaming down my face.

This is my daughter.

And this is the conversation I've had so many times with her.

I would write a longer comment but the tears are just flowing.

Oh, that we could teach our loved ones the talent of helping themselves.

And, oh, if they would follow through with it.

Hugs and thanks.

Too true.
Ultimately we are all responsible for ourselves.
Sure, a little help from a friend comes in handy, but basically we are the master of our own fate.

That was SUCH a good one, Sue! Life can be hard, but something wonderful happens overnight and we get a whole new day, every day. We have had an incredibly hard July, but August has arrived with all its wonderful possibility and promise of new experiences - grabbing hold and taking the ride!
