Themes: Of Souls, Storms, and Sweetgrass

Today I am dwelling on Themes for my Alphabe-Thursday T post,
and the poem Souls, Storms, and Sweetgrass represents my S post.
(Yes, I'm playing catch-up again.)

Tess at Magpie-Tales inspired my theme with this photo prompt by Mark Haley.

photo by Mark Haley
My path, at times, is overgrown;
storms brew beneath my swirling sky.

The sweetgrass curls and turns to brush,
scrapes tender flesh as I pass by.

Air presses close to steal my breath,
as condensation primes my tears.

The heaviness pools in my heart,
distilling fading hopes to fears.

Before me, rocks hedge up the way;
far in the distance stands a tree.

There is a wall without a gate
that opens outward on the sea.

I raise my eyes and fix my gaze
upon the deep, the rolling blue.

The rocks cleave into stepping stones
and lead my weary soul to You.

and I will give you rest."

So beautiful, Sue. Those are among my favourite words, from Matthew, and you've illustrated them beautifully with your words and the photos.

Very beautiful , Sue , the guy on the rock looks like some weird lefty environmentalist , who may be unpalatable to many Christians today !

The photos may be an inspiration, but I think you brought these words up from a deep spot in your heart. I know I've felt this way myself and you have put it all in beautiful words.

Love, love, love the "Requiem" song you have playing here. One of my favorites for soul-searching (and soul-soothing).

The theme of the photographs go so well with your words!
