Collecting Peace

Collecting Peace
©2014 Susan Noyes Anderson

Collecting is a testament
to life already lived––
a witness of the future
still in store.

The past holds value far beyond
the grave in which it lies;
we are wraith-ed in peace and yet left
wanting more.

Our ghosts inhabit weathered woods,
etched glass, revolving clocks––
every tick marks a beginning
and an end.

So we gather warm and lovely things
to comfort and surround,
ground ourselves in new tomorrows
with old friends.

  4. You said it well….just how I feel these days. The past is all around me yet it's never enough…I want more of it. So yes I keep "old friends" in my new tomorrows.

  9. You must be a collector of old and wonderful things. As I grow older, I have mixed feeling about holding onto many items, although I do admit many treasures are hard to part with...so I don't. ;)

  10. I have a few treasures of the past and some things I'm thinking about getting rid of to somebody who'll really enjoy them. I do enjoy antiques, especially linens..but sometimes you just have to say "when"! I know when a treasure can't be given away because I feel those "ghosts" within and know they need to stay!

  13. I do love the heirlooms and old things from grandparents and older in my home. They're comforting, reminding me both childhood and also the people they came from. Beautifully written. Please stop by my blog and wish Scott a happy birthday today!
