Snow? Mais non!

The Mill by Andrew Wyeth

I'll take my snow behind a window, please.
Let it fall freely past the frosty pane,
whilst I sit in my parlor quite at ease,
boots dry, exempt from sidewalk, stairs, and lane.

I will not fault its beauty, nor its grace.
In truth, the sight is pleasing to my view.
Yet I've no wish to feel it on my face,
no urge to build snowman or don snowshoe.

Snow is a splendor better left alone
to drift or swirl or hang upon a bough.
I cannot like that icy undertone
and shall not breach my refuge ere the plow.

  3. My feelings exactly! Although, I've made a few snowmen this year! Seriously though, your words with the music paint a lovely afternoon, all the way.

  4. So very lovely and descriptive of how I feel when it is snowing here. We are expecting more this week. I am praying that we all can have more water; the west is very dry as you well know.
    Blessings and hugs!

  6. We finally got snow here. JDaniel is so happy for the 1/2 inch of it.

  7. I can understand that living where you do that you might not appreciate being out in the snow. It's nasty ice on sidewalks, pathways and streets that I abhor. But snow I like. ;))

  18. Hi Sue, this was lovely piece to read & the piano piece was beautiful! I can't say I understand what it is like to live where it snows because I'm from Queensland, Australia and it's a wonderful temperature here pretty much all year round. After all the poems I've read here today, yours included, I think I might be in for quite an experience when I and snow finally come face to face!
