Surrendering to Social Media

Hello, friends. Have you heard that the old relic who runs Sue's News Views 'n Muse (yep, that'd be me) has finally surrendered to the social media explosion? It's true, and evidence of my capitulation can be spotted at the bottom of this post, where you will see several small symbols like those pictured above, albeit not as colorful. No doubt you will be thrilled to know that you can now e-mail my posts, blog my posts, tweet my posts, facebook my posts, google plus my posts...why, I've even joined Pinterest so you can pin my posts, which is something I swore I would never do under any circumstances. And you know what? I'm having fun with it! (In fact, I'm hoping you will check out the top of my sidebar and click my follow button.)

Can't say that I've put out any tweets lately, but who knows? Maybe I'll get the hang of that, too.

For now, though, I'm just keeping my beak shut.

  1. You must be bed ridden or something. (Are you feeling any better?) I would have no idea how to tweet, even if I wanted to. Which I don't. But then again, never say never, because I never thought I'd join Facebook or want an iPhone either. So good for you, jumping in with both feet!

  2. Yep, I am sick as a dog, and this is how I'm entertaining myself! (I think I might be dangerous...)

  3. Hey, I thought I got a notification today that you were on Instagram too! Welcome!

  4. I think I would surrender too but I think I won't ever like facebook but who knows, one's mind can change if they want to

hope you have a great day.

  7. Et tu Sue??
I guess I'll be the last hold out!

  8. I followed you on pinterest before I even finished reading your post. Yep, I'm an addict. I love that it's basically an online file for good ideas.
I joined twitter, but I have yet to tweet. Don't know how. And I have a Facebook page, but I have posted three times, I think.
Just give me my cute little blog, and I'm happy. Unless you can convince me otherwise.

And sorry to hear you're sick. Get up and away from technology!

  9. I have fb .... i just rarely use it ... and i really dont need more time spent sitting on my ever widening butt ... so, i chose the gym over tweeting ...

  10. Go back and forth about FB -my kids try to convince me that it helps to keep in contact with them, and then there are some blogfriends who are more there than here! It's a toss-up...

  11. Sue, I am so sorry to hear that you are "sick as a dog." My hat's off to you with all the social networking. It's all I can do to keep up with my blog!!

  12. Please UN-SHUT your beak! You should tweet, squeak, peak, peek, whatever word applies to each media! It is always fun to come visit you!

  13. I'm on twitter but hardly go there because I just don't get it. I stay away from pinterest because I already spend too much time on my computer!

  14. I have used FB for years...mostly to keep up with my sons if they are not home ( Grandsons' daddy was in iraq for awhile so i posted more pics and videos back then )

Just started a blog in late May. Those two are enough for me ! :) For now, anyway !

  15. You scared me Sue. At first I thought you were going to say you are bowing out of blogging to do these other things. So glad that is not true!

  16. Funny, your joining in and I am flying away. I still have my accounts. But I never (almost) use them. Just can't believe what a time sucker they are. When I was younger I was taught God first, Others Second, I'm Third...While I certainly don't abide by this FULLY I have decided that social media put me closer to first and well...I flapped my wings and left the nest (mostly) :)

Ok, that sounded like I was negative about you coming in for a landing but I am not, really...I hope you find the perfect balance and when you do maybe you can share that with me and I will fly back in for a bit????

    Always love your blog!

  17. I keep trying twitter and I just don't think it fits me. I wish I had a smart phone though, because instagram seems like my cup of tea.

I love me some Pinterest. Can't wait to follow you.

  18. I'm still a hold out. I refuse to join Facebook. I just don't like some of the things I've heard about it in the past. The latest was that they were using face identifying software to identify people when pictures were uploaded. However, they've since removed it. I just don't like stuff like that, but realize Google is probably no better. I just try to limit things a little. I did join Twitter so I could join Pinterest, but the only thing I ever Twitted was that I was joining so I could join Pinterest without joining Facebook. (Did you follow that?) Now I don't even bother signing in to Pinterest and really should quit Twitter. I just need to go over there and figure out how. I only look at Pinterest once in a blue moon. It was fun at first, but time consuming. I've just tried to limit the amount of time I spend online. It can very easily turn into hours and I don't want that to happen.

  19. Well we could tweet together too! I jumped on with twitter a few months ago, (and so hubby had to too, but I don't even think he's ever tweeted! What I like most about twitter is that you can follow folks that you really enjoy from all walks of the world, if they tweet of course, but it's kind of fun...like keeping up with what Diane Keaton is doing or who ever! Welcome!

  20. Sue, this must be kismet. I've been meaning to write to you to ask if you play around in other forms of social media & BOOM! Here you are with buttons and links to all these places I rarely go. Have fun out there.

I do have accounts on most SoMe sites, I just don't keep up with any of them except FB which I use for some social interaction but mostly as a portal to games. ;-)

  21. consider yourself followed....but then, wait a minute...you've always been followed...so what's so new, Sue? LOL. Love ya.

  22. I guess blogging and face book are enough for me. I would lots rather read a good book.

  23. Oh my...I'm such a relic...I quit FB and now all the announcements from Relief Society are put on it..if I don't show up for something I guess they know why! I've never tweeted...I'm not sure about Pinterest although I do find it interesting...instagram? No clue. I still have a flip phone. Atleast it's not a Jitterbug! I was given an old Kindle to see how I would like it. Hmmm...maybe there is hope for me after all!

  24. I'm on those medias, too. Twitter doesn't much thrill me, so I do next to nothing with it. Facebook is a great way to keep up with family and friends, near and far.
Pinterest is such fun! I'm now following you!

  25. I'm a social media dinosaur. I have a Google Plus and Pin accounts that I do not use. I just don't have the time!

  26. Welcome to social media Sista Sue, but be careful that Pinterest can be addicting!

  27. tweets? and fb everyday? too much. but there are very successful people on them and it works for them. I like fb for reconnecting with friends.

  28. I do facebook because of some highschool friends that I got connected with again, and we keep track when they will be visiting so we can get together. Also keep up with my youth kids that way...

  29. As you know, I am kind of a fan of social media! It REALLY can be used for good! But it CAN also be overwhelming so I think your approach is smart! I am now going to click on your links and follow you!

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Wait. Did I misunderstand--are you on Twitter too? If so where is the link to follow you. :) Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss something.

  31. That's funny!! It is hard to resist Pinterest...so many great ideas!! I still don't quite get twitter; perhaps if I had a phone where I could read the updates when I'm sitting around waiting...which is never b/c my kids never let me just sit around. :) So, yes, it just doesn't work for me! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm impressed!

I like that you're embracing the media!

    I'm still resisting.

But you will totally shine in whatever area you choose to promote!

Hope you are all better now and enjoyed your trip!

    Thanks for linking.

    A+
