Valette - Under Winslow Bridge
The Watcher
© 2012 Susan Noyes Anderson
He watched, aloof, as other men built bridges...
eschewed their trust in girders, planks and beams.
Foundations always cracked for him or crumbled.
(Nothing strong is ever as it seems.)
He peered from shadows, most of his own making,
cursed the careless hearts that let him down,
decried the better life he was forsaking,
and labeled bridges one more way to drown.

so sad...xx
ReplyDeletecrap, I think I am going to cry. WOW. I am printing this one!
ReplyDeleteThis was a little sad and the picture was reflective. Yes, Poigant I would say. Thanks for the link to the poems. I wish I had the talent to write one.
ReplyDeleteYou astound me.
Hugs!
Oh, woe is me. This could be me.
ReplyDeleteit is pretty sad to see people like this....where it is the worlds fault and they feel everyone and everything is against them....
ReplyDeleteGreat poem Sue! Loved the title too, "The Watcher" We need to stop watching and roll up our sleeves and get to work strengthening our foundations.
ReplyDeleteThe sense of hopelessness is very powerful. Well done.
ReplyDeleteOh dear... what a sad, sad man and yet, so true of some people creating their own misery and loving being in it because they don't know any other way to be and so close out any hope of change.
ReplyDeletePhew.... felt this Sue :) Well penned!
Pretty depessing. Still the poem was altogether impressive! But then, again, yours always are.
ReplyDeleteWow - this was so well done. The rhyme works beautifully with the whole piece. Thanks. k.
ReplyDeleteYes, he realized that his life is a farce.
ReplyDeleteThat last line is so powerful. I wonder how many people feel this way but choose to give life another try. No one really knows what goes on in other peoples minds.
ReplyDeleteoouch.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's always easier to shake your fist and wallow in your misery than to pick yourself up and do something about it. I've been both people, and I like myself better when I give myself the power to shore up my foundation and become stronger, better, improved. Wallowing is just whiney fear.
ReplyDeleteOh no, somebody please give this man your love.....very sad, but so real it's quite scary.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of some people I know. So sad. They are missing what could be.
ReplyDeleteOoooh...that gave me goose bumps.
ReplyDelete"Bridges one more way to drown." Powerful.
ReplyDeleteI like that last line, too... the whole piece is beautifully written, Sue.
ReplyDeleteHe does seem rather a "glass half empty" kind of bloke, but im glad he has life in this poem ! Well done
ReplyDeleteOoh, very sad to be in this state.
ReplyDeleteWow. This one was a tough one to do.
ReplyDeleteYour take is so powerful.
Your poem packs an emotional punch! (love the background music)
ReplyDeleteIt's very deflating when all encounters give you a reason to feel so down trodden. I love the way you had your 'Watcher' blaming every one else for his own failings. Wonderful insights, Sue! Thanks for sharing. =D
ReplyDeleteThis one is SO powerful, Sue. I got chills all over reading it. I loved it! You are a master of words.
ReplyDelete:)
Great poem for the image...but oh so sad.
ReplyDeletebridges one more way to drown, wow
ReplyDeleteLove that line..."nothing strong is ever as it seems"..profound..very intense!
ReplyDeleteYou wrote well to the image.
ReplyDeleteI can feel his pain. Beautifully crafted!
ReplyDeleteI am a tragic romantic, and this poem is right up my alley. So melancholy!
