Puddle, 1952, M. C. Escher
It’s Complicated

I want to say
the worth of a puddle
is in the scenery it reflects.
But then I remember the jump,
the backsplash of rain on my boots,
the nod to nature
as polka-dot dewdrops
cast precipitate patterns
on my leggings.
Beautiful Sue.
ReplyDeleteAn enjoyable take on the prompt...
ReplyDeletepolka dot dew drops....love that imagery sue....there is much fun in a puddle...smiles.
ReplyDeleteLove love polka dot dew drops!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good explanation of life. :)
ReplyDeletebtw, I can't get enough of your rain sounds. That's the best!
ReplyDeleteVery cool Sue. Beautiful. You always paint such a vivid picture with your words!
ReplyDeleteI turned on my sound ... love the sound of the falling rain! Your poem is delightful!
ReplyDeleteThe worth of a puddle, very nice, and I do like Escher's mysterious art works.
ReplyDeleteLoved this! I am suddenly five years old again splashing through puddles on the way home from school :-) thank you!
ReplyDeletemuddy polka dots!
ReplyDeletewhimsical poem with a so real sound to help me enjoy my moment here. Thanks

Reminds me of being a child and loving the rain...reminds me to love the rain again..reminds me that we finally got rain yesterday and today and I was happy to splash in the puddles on the way to work!
ReplyDeleteWhat tapestries you weave with your words!
ReplyDeleteI liked the reflective imagery, very powerful, this pool.
ReplyDeleteThey are to jump in at my house. Lovely poem!
ReplyDeleteSo whimsical and it just captured my inner child. Beautifully done, Sue - once again. And thank you again for the kind words on my dad's post. He enjoyed each one immensely - exactly as I hoped he would. I've been ordered to print the whole thing out so he can keep it.
ReplyDeleteI loved this as I could just see you in my minds eye when you were a little girl......probably taking a good high leap preparatory to jumping right in the middle of a big puddle.
ReplyDeleteI almost wish I could have been like that...unlike you, I was so very careful to avoid such things, always keeping in mind that I couldn't get my clothes or my feet wet or it would make more work for my mom.
I'm so glad that you were such an uncomplicated child. I love that you had such a great imagination too! You never seemed to have trouble finding fun things to do, even when you didn't have anyone but Nancy to play with when we lived on LaCienga.
I loved this post.
'the worth of a puddle is in the scenery it reflects' What a great thought! And then the puddle jump...delightful!
ReplyDeleteReally nice. Great sound effects, too (although I'm barely awake and thought my computer was buzzing).
ReplyDeleteI love little nods to nature! Perfect puddling!
ReplyDeleteI really love your poem enhanced by the falling rain sounds, Sue. Interaction is far more impressive than scenery. The more splash the better! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou are SO prolific!! I see the 2012 dates on your poetry and can't believe you come up with so many original and beautiful pieces.
ReplyDeleteAnd the photography is a perfect mesh (mashup?)...
Aaaah! I LOVe this! I know I always say that, but I really really do! I was there, looking at the puddle, and then jumping in it and enjoying it even more. Sigh. I need to go find a good puddle now!
