Lifelong

At last!
A "normal" Saturday Centus prompt!!
And 100 words to make it sing!!!

Thanks, Jenny.
(Or maybe I should thank Nonna?)
;)

The prompt, as always, is in red.

It’s harder now to tell where your part ends,
or where my part begins, as time goes on.
I only know that when I speak of friends,
I always name you first. You are lifelong.

We’ve breathed each other’s air enough to know
that suffocation will not be our lot.
Sometimes I wander to, you wander fro.
But lonely’s something you and I are not.

We’ve been together two-thirds of our days.
Safe home. The years roll by. The years roll by.
We know where all the bodies are buried.
And we know when. And we know how and why.

  1. Very nice take on the prompt, Sue. You obviously have a good relationship in your life for inspiration.

  2. cool take on the prompt. The poem and the photo you used immediately reminded me of a sculpture by Steinunn Porarinsdottir I saw in Reykjavik, Iceland...

  3. Oh wow, I'm late to the party this week, haven't even read Jenny's assignment yet, (soon, couple of other Saturday posts I do too) but what ever her program is this week sounds like she's given us a breather!!! Yeah! ... and your post, this is very lovely, your words read like magic TO ME! Great work, and the photo rocks too!

  4. If you believe what's on TV or in the media, lifelong relationships are few..we live in a disposable society and few can say "I know where the bodies are buried"..and even fewer know why or even care. So I love the poem with that prompt and as anyone can tell, you have a lifelong friend!

  12. Lovely, lovely, lovely. It was an interesting take on the prompt. Friendships like that are rare indeed. Am I thinking this wonderful friend is Dave?

  13. its so nice and warm until i get to the bodies...haha...but then again we have to bury the bodies in a relationship to keep it working...metaphorically of course...smiles.

  17. I read this right after you wrote it Sue, and I've been thinking about it ever since. I'm not sure I understand completely about where the bodies are buried. Do you mean you have such a great marriage that you know all the good and bad, so to speak? Sorry, sometimes I can be a little dense. But I love what you write and want to understand this one better.

  20. Wonderful post, Sue! We should all be so lucky as to have found a friend like this. For most of us, unfortunately, the search continues.

  21. How beautiful!! Loved the perfect wording: we can be individuals, but still need each other...a need tied together with want.

  24. What I love the most about these prompts and how you use them is that I am always, always surprised (as in, impressed and delighted) by how the stories/poems unfold. It makes reading them a real pleasure.

p.s. I also think the relationship you describe sounds like one everyone would wish to have. :)

  26. Awwww, Sue. This was wonderful.

    I love this.

I had two friends like this in my life. I lost one late last year and the loss has been felt profoundly.

    This was really touching.

    And it made me cry.

    You are brilliant.

    Just incredibly brilliant.
