Ubiquitous Collections

The man in my life is often dismayed at my ubiquitous collections of certain household items that I cannot seem to resist. Among these are...

delicious-smelling (preferably spicy) candles,

adorable napkins that I find on sale,

multi-sized flower vases,

aromatherapy plug-ins...antibacterial hand washes,

and various hair products.

I also collect my share of shoes and dangling earrings,
but that's a subject for another day.

I think my husband dislikes the accumulation of hair products least of all. After several uses, I've been known to decide that I don't like the way they make my locks feel or behave. (I am pretty picky about my shampoo and conditioner.) In fact, I regret to say that the cupboards in my bathrooms are filled with barely sampled bottles of unsatisfactory mane-cleansing concoctions, and my darling Dave has taken it upon himself to personally use up as many of these as possible and gift the rest to our children.

I applaud his action, because he is making good use of my cast-offs and avoiding unnecessary waste of perfectly viable products. However, he is now eyeing my napkin supply and threatening to hit my candle cupboard! If he is foolish enough to pursue this course of action, my protestations will be ubiquitous. And so will the consequences...

;)

PS. I will defend my pursuit of ubiquity to the end!

  1. Wow! First comment! I don't think I've ever been here before! :)

Thanks for the new vocabulary word. Candles and napkins sound like a party in the planning stages. The house will smell wonderful and the treats even better!

I hope Dave throws you a party.

  3. You are just getting your years supply storage in, right? Or is that justification? I do the same with the candles and soaps. I buy them when they are on sale, and use them until they are on sale again. It is heavenly, I think. :)

  4. I have similar stashes of vases and candles. And napkins.
Just not hair products. Funny post. Great U word.

  6. I have a napkin collection too. It contains leftover napkins from JDaniel's first three birthday parties. I need to let them go.

  7. Wow. I learned a new word. Well, I'd heard it before, but didn't know the meaning. Had to look it up before I commented. Now, I can't think of anything else to say, except that I collect hippos.

  8. Hello.
    Your post had me chuckling.
I think my wife can relate to the shoes...she has way too many to wear and would probably have a meltdown if I tried to touch them!

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. I think we were separated at birth. LOL. I too have a candle, hand lotion/sani, shampoo, napkin stash. But I also have a TT, tissue, paper towel, laundry, dish soap/bath soap stash. My hubby always rolls his eyes when I bring another 12 pack in the house. I always tell him in the end times you can't wipe with gold! :)

You know there are charitable organizations that would put the soap to good use if your children don't want it and you want to give hubby a reprieve.~Ames

  10. My weakness is kitchen gadgets...and dangly earrings. I'm with Wendy. Dave needs to throw you a big party and then clean up afterwards.

  11. I like how you store your napkins...you can easily see just what you have.

I also do the same thing with shampoo. But since my husband has no hair, he can't use up what I don't :(

My last few comments to you have come back to me. So I'm trying again. Hope this one makes it.

  12. It's okay, Jill, and I'm sorry about the bouncing emails on comment notifications. It's AOL's fault, and they are supposedly fixing it this week. Anyway, I still get your comment in my gmail account, so no worries. Sorry for the inconvenience though, and I promise to keep bugging AOL till they clear it up.

    *sigh*

  13. Ames doesn't get it. You don't WANT to give up your soap collection!! I totally get it. There are a few things that I collect too, just not like you do, and unlike you, I just don't add to them anymore. I must say though, that I do enjoy being on the receiving end of all those clothes that you seem to keep collecting. I think in the last batch, I counted five long sleeve white blouses that had never been worn. I think you must have worn them under your zillions of jumpers at one time.

The collection I have of elephants is the thing I have the most of and fortunately I "hardly ever" buy them anymore.

I love your napkins. Don't let Dave near them. I have to say that most men are not neat freaks like Dave is. If you should ever let him have his way, he would get rid of more than half of your stuff and would certainly never allow more than one of ANYTHING.

I love that Dave is a neat freak though and you have to admit he is pretty handy to have around the house after company leaves. He is great for clean up and I love having him in the kitchen when I am working in there.

I also love your "U" word. I don't think I have ever used it before either.......very descriptive though, I looked it up also.

  14. Well, you know I love Dave, but you're just going to have to find a good hiding place. If he can't see them, they won't bother him. I love your collections of things. It's what makes you, YOU.

  15. Oh - and don't get me started on unused/unsatisfactory hair products. I have a TON of those under the sink. I think I'll just slowly start pouring them into LaMar's bottles.

  16. My hoard (um, collection) of hair products doesn't come near yours, but they're there in my cabinet...along with nail polish too thick to use and cosmetics that still have something in them -- but will I use that stuff? No! Will I throw it away? Apparently not!

The worst is yarn though, everywhere!

    Yea for ubiquitous!

  17. I think everyone has their "thing"..mine is linens..it would be dishes too, but I really wouldn't have the space! I don't have space for linens either, but I make room. Hopefully none of us will show up on a reality show..like Hoarders..or maybe "Mormons without the ability to distinguish between hoarding and a yrs. supply"..oh, that's too long a title anyway!

  18. wow. that's alot of stuff.
It would drive me kinda nuts.
Love your use of "ubiquitous" tho.

  19. Ha! Sue.
How'd you get into my house without my knowing?????

    ReplyDelete
  20. This is too cute, Sue :) I also have my hoards of things I cannot part with too which drives Jason crazy and in a way, drives me crazy too. Hey with all those candles, you can tell Dave that you're now prepared for any surprise power outages :)

Love the word 'Ubiquitous' by the way!

  21. Ha! I'm laughing because I can so relate! I used to stash those things too. Since our move I just haven't had it in me...I lost the love of stashing. I'm almost out of everything though! I don't know what I'll do when I run out of my last bath and body work plug in!

  22. Sue, I collect those cocktail napkins! I have a cabinet full of them! It is my weakness. I used to save the vases, but I sold most of them at a garage sale. As for the hair products, I think I have finally gotten that addiction under control.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ha. I love candles. But they have to be the right kind. Good idea with the napkins. With a house as busy as yours is, I bet you go through them a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  24. haha...your collection sounds like Robb's. I'm the closet-cleaner-outer in our house and he's the fill-it-as-full-as-you-can guy!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hmmm...I wonder if a homeless shelter would like your leftover shampoos and conditioners?

    ReplyDelete
  26. We all have our weak spots for amassing stuff....I must admit....yours is actually pretty funny! I found myself laughing and wide eyed at most of it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. haha...i have about 160 nutcrackers if you want to trade...my wife will never notice...smiles.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ha! I think most of us have collections of something. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh, yes: spicy candles are not to be touched by men who hate the abundance of them...only adoringly sniffed...at least we can hope! :) And those napkins must be so fun (Wish I could see the fronts of them!!) Great post!

    ReplyDelete
  30. All of the candles I buy smell like FOOD!! I once worked in a candle store and I ALwAYS pushed the food candles over the flower ones!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sue! What a cute post! I hope he doesn't risk it! I'd hate to read about THAT in the newspaper!

Thanks for the adorable link this week.

    I'm still grinning!

    A+
