Man and woman.
Heaven’s grace
reaching, touching
altar’s lace.
Gift of God,
the sealing power.
Life eternal
from that hour
is theirs. A prize
to lose or keep
by covenant
that runs heart-deep.
A family born.
A promise sure.
If man and woman
but endure.
His seed also will I make to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
Psalms 89:29

"IF a man and woman but endure" - mighty challenging. Why don't people think about the covenant before they leap? This was wonderful, Sue.
ReplyDeleteThe vow... it's a powerful bind that ties.~Ames
ReplyDeleteSuper sweet...and very true!
ReplyDeleteWhich temple is that? I don't recognize it offhand.
ReplyDeleteto endure...that is the key, right there. lovely Sue.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful. I've been having this discussion with people lately. This poem is a perfect way to describe it.
ReplyDeletea covenant...a promise deep in the heart.
ReplyDeletelove, a verb, not a feeling that flies away. Love is an action word.
A BEAUTIFUL poem, and would make a nice gift for a couple (or family) going through the temple. 'endure'
ReplyDeleteYour poetry is so lovely. I like this one alot! I wish I had a gift to write poems, but I don't. My mind just goes blank!

Wow. That gave me chills.
ReplyDeleteThat is the most beautiful marriage poem I think I've ever read!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lisalulu - it would make a lovely gift to a couple. Beautiful, Sue!
ReplyDeletePerfect! Thank you Sister Anderson.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Sue! If we can but endure the blessings are ours!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I wish people would take their vows more seriously.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful piece, Sue. As always, I am in awe of your gift.
ReplyDeleteOh my, this is so good that I may have to use it for the wedding cards we sent out to those married in the temple. We have been using one of your other ones for years and always get comments on it. They are both so good though, it's going to be a hard choice. Could I use both or would that be overkill. Thanks for this one.
ReplyDeleteI love the poem and the pic too. What's so sweet is we have Sister in our Branch who just got married. She's in her 60's...she was married before but to a non-member. They divorced. She's always wanted a Temple marriage. Probably thought it would never happen. Only it did this past June..her new hubby is 88! But they are both very happy and she has her heart's desire...an eternal marriage..they married in the Manti Temple...
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, Sue! This would make a wonderful wedding present.
ReplyDeleteAnd is the gorgeous picture that of the inside of a Mormon Temple? I have never been inside or seen the inside of a Mormon Temple. It is beautiful!
Lovely! Do you mind if I copy this for my kids? It's a beautiful gift idea - just thinking how to present it . . .
ReplyDeleteKristin
I love the simplicity and depth of your poems and you as well:)
ReplyDeleteIn answer to Jen's question, the picture is of the Manti temple.
ReplyDelete=)
nice...my parents were married in the Manti temple.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem :) Marriage is such a sacred thing that it makes me sad every time I hear that the divorce rate is high.
ReplyDeleteYou always put so much meaning into so few words. Beautiful and deep.
ReplyDeleteOoo, and I just LOVE the song you have with this one...it was the only song my husband requested to be sung at our wedding...and two of my best friends did an amazing job singing it. :) Thanks for the memories.
ReplyDeletePeople don't think about the covenant anymore - but it is one of the most beautiful promises if a couple endures.
ReplyDeleteOH this is beautiful--and totally along the lines of what I have been thinking constantly about for the past several months. Very beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBig happy smile and heart full. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reading at our wedding was: 'Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.' Ecclesiastes 4:12
ReplyDelete(A covenant made between us in the presence of God)
