The X-static Tree

I don't know about you, but trees make me X-static.
So X-static, that I wrote a poem:
The X-static Tree
(scratch that, too unpoetic)

I'm swinging on the happy tree,
in love with everything I see.

White, fluffy clouds and bright blue sky
reach out for me as I fly by.

With heav’n above and earth below,
I sail as high as I can go.

And I’m a plane, a bird, a kite…
a red balloon, the first starlight.

I chase the sun and catch it, then
I let it chase me back again.

It captures me, but I don’t care;
I’m always happy in the air.

I know my home is safe and sound,
just waiting for me on the ground.

And life is sweet as sweet can be,
flying high and floating free...

swinging on the happy tree.

  6. I pulled your blog and Emilisq's up at the same time. Louis Armstrong played as I read Em's entry. When you read it, read it with that in mind. It's kinda funny.
    And I love the trees.

  10. Reminds me of so many hours swinging on the giant swing set my Dad made. He worked for the power company and had them come out and bury power poles for it. The swings were about 30 feet high. It would take some serious pumping but once we were up there we were way up there.
Now I'm just a big swinging chicken!

  13. Ah, Sue...thank you for the memories. It was on the swings of my youth that I found temporary reprieve of the insanity of my world. Loved this to pieces!

  14. Such a lovely sweet poem, Sue. I like the photos and illustrations you have to go with it. It reminds me why I liked swinging and climbing trees so much as a kid. :-)

  15. I wanna go to Mom's house right now and sit in the swing attached to the big tree by the pond. When I swing really high, all the stresses of the day fly away. You're never too old to swing in the Happy Tree!

  17. The music came on just as started to read the poem. The music made me smile as I looked at the pictures and read the words of everyone of them "flying" in some way.

  18. Great post! Do you know how difficult it is to capture your child smiling on a swinging swing. I spend hours trying to get the right shot and still haven't got it!

  22. I think this is a great way to describe a joyful life, whether we have trees or not. It also reminds me how we need to be more like children and live in the moment.

  32. I don't know what I love more...the pictures or the poem. Both are fantastic.

  33. Well, just...darn!

I hope my memorizer still works. I'm still reciting Robert Louis Stevenson to my Grands when they swing, you know? "Up in the air I go flying again..."

But now I will have to get that out of my head and memorize yours because I totally and completely LOVE IT!

    Wow.

You are the master, Miss Sue.

    Or the mistress.

But mistress sounds kind of like you are cheap and possibly dirty and I know you aren't so I'm going to stick with master.

    Anyway.

    Loved this link.

Really, really superb rhymes and pictures.

    Wow.

Move over Robert! There's a new swinging poet in town.

    A+
