Descent (Descant) into Madness

I admit to having gone a little off kilter with my Saturday Centus offering this week, but I haven't slept since my family got here, and I'm losing my mind. (Perhaps that explains the subject matter).

As usual, the prompt is in red; the other 100 words are mine, such as they are...

Descent (Descant) into Madness
A Memoir

It was a dark and stormy night;
my soul was changed forevermore.
If only I had barred the door,
to spare myself the awful sight.

To spare myself the awful sight,
I could have stayed within my bed
and pulled the covers o’er my head,
saved by the grace of human fright.

Saved by the grace of human fright,
I might have lived a life unmarred.
I might have loved and laughed, unscarred
by evil shrouded in moonlight.

By evil shrouded in moonlight,
my mind was dealt a killing blow.
We parted in the fading glow;
it was a dark and stormy night.

  1. I had to look up descant to make sure I understood where you were going with this. I love the madness of this descent/descant.

  5. Still can't understand how you can write poetry so quickly, and especially this type of poetry. I love it. This is one of the most interesting poems you have written. I forgot what you call this way of writing. I tried it once and didn't like my outcome.

  7. Does your husband know?

    That you an Edgar Allen obviously had a big old fling where you absorbed his writing style. Or perhaps he absorbed yours.

    This was really incredible.

    Maybe you should become sleep deprived more often if this is the result.

    I just sit in front of the screen writing "The quick brown fox jumped over the..." Hmmm.... I just forgot how that typing exercise goes.

    Get some rest!

    This was great!

  18. Once I knew your family was visiting, I found your poetry humorous but dark. What a good description of the joys and torments a family brings!

    I just posted two assignments in one post. I'm bad, but please visit me anyway!
