Skype Ain't Just Hype!

My cute grandkids were urging me to Skype (their latest thrill) with them last week, but I held off until I looked and felt a little less like death warmed over. I'd heard about skyping, of course, but never realized what GREAT FUN it would be! How cool is it to be able to look at and talk to some of my very favorite people in the world whenever I get the urge (which will probably be often...)

It was funny to watch them climb all over each other at first, trying to get in on the action. Eventually, though, they were willing to wait their turn and go one at a time. (Good job, guys!) I loved hearing and watching them tell me all about the various virtues of their new teachers (even the youngest is starting preschool now) and seeing evidence (big boy underwear) of that little guy's requisite voyage into potty training. Best of all, of course, was just feasting my eyes on their cute faces, although Carli got it right when she said, "Wouldn't it be cool if we could hug?" My answer was a wholehearted yes, and it did occur to me that it must be hard for those servicemen and women to look at each other on the screen and not be able to physically touch their loved ones. But it sure beats email or a phone call!

Can you tell that I am an enthusiastic Skype convert? And it's free, if both parties download the software. Not bad, eh?

On the coughing front, things are finally improving with my chest cold. I even slept in this morning! My energy level's still down, though, which should be interesting because I have one of those big Young Adult dinners at my house tonight. Fortunately, Dave did a lot of the preparation after church yesterday...

Over and out. Wait, that's not Skype, that CB radios, right? (Back in the day of the very-much-duller dinosaur.)

;)

  2. Oh man do you still have the crud? It is hanging on.

Skype definately is SO fun!! I always cannot believe it is free. It is definately a great way to stay in touch with kids and grandkids. There are alot of things that can be bad about technology but that is one of the good guys!!

Hope you are feeling better and get your energy back soon Sue :-D

  3. I'm sure Skype is the best if you have grandkids out of town. Mine are all in town, but someday I know that will not be the case and I will be looking to Skype.
How cute how you waited for them to finish crawling over each other :))So in other words, you got to see the real thing!

  4. I agree. I am amazed that Skype is free. I talk to my cousin in the Netherlands almost every week. I love it because I get to see her little girl grown up. So much better than a photo!

  6. I'm glad you're feeling better.

And I've got to get going on skype. I don't want my girlfriends' kids to forget me back in Missouri...isn't that funny?

I miss those little buggers and have been their surrogate Aunt for 11 years. I don't want them to forget me.

  8. We LOVE skype!!! Now you need everyone to get iPhone 4's so you can FaceTime! It's just like skype but on your cell phone. I think we've finally convinced all of the grandparents they need one now, lol. The best thing ahoy skype is FREE!!!!

  9. Sue, we Skype to Venezuela to talk to my in-laws almost every weekend! It's wonderful because they can ooh and ahh over the children and it's been great for my husband to be able to "see" his family more frequently. It is hard sometimes because I just know my mother-in-law wants to hug and kiss the children! I still can't get over that it's free!

I am sorry that you are still under the weather. I hope and pray this ends soon for you.
Skype is awesome. I have been wanting to do a post about it myself.. I have used it twice with my grandbabies and am in awe of how much fun it is.
My problem is it uses a lot of my byetes and with verizon I have limited bytes and these blogs suck them up even more thank skype.
    What a great post.
    Enjoy your Skype
    Love
    Maggie

  12. I love skype too- it allowed my mama to SEE my youngest brother open his mission call.

Also you must try some mucinex (or any generic therof) or mucinex-D. It will fix your chest cold in a juffy, the most annoying of the symptoms anyway.

  13. We had a web cam (is it the same thing? I'm a techno dummie!) It didn't work to great but maybe I need to check into the skype thing..It would be fun to talk face to face! One thing for sure, they won't catch your cold! Hope you feel better soon.

  14. Our son in NYC has been wanting us to get it, but I don't know anything about how to do it. It sure would be great as everyone is far away.
I do hope you feel better very soon. It's a tough thing to shake, so just go easy until it seems gone.
I received the necklace today - thank you so much! Can't wait to wear it tomorrow!
Again - feel better soon. Been thinkin' 'bout'cha!

  16. I love skype. We did it tonight in fact with our grand daughter. When you only have one grandchild and she lives in another state it is nice to know we can watch her grow up on skype at least. At first she was just a little ball sitting there but now, a year and a half later, she is so excited to see us. She yells "Hi!" and blows us kisses. It is the most fun part of our week.

I am sorry you are still feeling bad, but glad it is finally getting better. Hopefully your recovery will be very quick from here on out.

  21. I'm looking forward to conversing with you on skype. The only one we have talked to on it is Don, but I am sure a lot more people have it than will admit, in our family alone. Maybe one of these days......

I'm wondering how your party turned out. I'm sure everyone had a great time. I just hope you aren't too worn out. That can be hard when one is feeling really well. So, I'm sure you are feeling the results of a hard day yesterday. Hope you get well soon.
