Yerka - Kitchen Confessional

Between Heaven and Hell, 1989 by Jacek Yerka

©2013 Susan Noyes Anderson

My kitchen is perched between heaven and hell,
but it leans in the latter direction.
The dishes I'm cooking are don't ask, don't tell
with abstaining the only protection.

The oven yawns open, though it's on the blink,
as it waits for my latest disaster.
I ought to just chuck the whole thing in the sink
and dispose of the mess that much faster.

But no, I must bake it. The urge is that strong.
Can food go from infern- to supernal?
I'll add Pepto Bismol for luck (am I wrong?)
with a sprinkle of hope springs eternal.

Others, of course, were not so lucky...

Is that a warning???? I'll take it as such! Of course, with poetry like yours there's food for the soul and that really ought to be enough!

Haha! So funny. I love that photo. And the pepto bit... well, I am not sure it would work if it were baked into something. :)

This is so cute, Sue. I'll have to share it with my daughters. For years we joked that the smoke alarm was our dinner bell...this fits right in!

All I know is that I didn't die when I was there. But then again...you didn't cook, did you? Very clever, Miss Sue! Even if you don't like to cook, your hospitality is the BEST!

I take it cooking is not your favorite thing. Your Mom sure has some good recipes!

Yahoo!

Sue and her magic pen write again!

This was fabulous!

And, hey, if I didn't actually have to cook it there's nothing a lot of salt and pepper and possibly tabasco wouldn't cure!

Thanks for the smile!
